Need advice on what to do with current situation

Whats up guys and gals. Im Tony, new to the forum. First post and needing some help. Im running two jl12w3v3 subs in a prefab ported box. jl specs call for 1.75 net cu ft per sub. My box only provides 1.45 net cu ft for both subs!!! I didnt pay much attention to these specs until I couldnt seem to get the subs to sound how I wanted them to. Since then I have been experimenting. I polyfilled the box. That might have helped a tad but not enough. Now im thinking of inverting the subs to get a little bit of the box back hoping that will make a difference. So my question is, will it be worth inverting the subs, or am I basically screwed unless I get a much bigger box??

I'd say up to even 70% of optimum size shouldn't make too big of a deal, but less than half is about guaranteed poor performance. I'd wager that the "recommended" box size is already on the small side of optimum.

With both subs inverted your still going to be 1.0 ft^3 short. If your prefab is tuned correctly for it's volume it will never be correct for the increased volume. The only way to come close to fixing your problem take out one sub and cover the hole.

Ok. Just a quick update. I was quoted $250-$300 for a custom box. With it being the holiday season, I really can't afford that right now. So I went ahead and added more polyfill to my box. I had quite a bit left in the bag I bought. So maybe I didn't add enough to begin with. Then I went ahead and inverted the subs. Finaly a significant difference, which I wasnt expecting. Before I was getting really bad peaks where I didnt want them. Even with lpf at 50hz. Only way I could get rid of them was turning gain down way below target voltage, but then I had low overal output. Now I have target voltage set and no more high frequency peaks. Maybe even slightly better low end bass. Thank the lord! So for anyone who has a box to small, id have to recommend a good amount of polyfill and inverting subs. It may not be ideal. But it helped me out, at least until I can get a custom box. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
