need advice on what 10" 600 watt rms sub to buy

I like the specs on the tc sound epic 10". I don't like that it is only 2 ohm dvc. I would prefer 4x4. My amp is rated at 1 ohm but the bp600.1 have been none to shut off when running very long at 1 ohm. The tc epic is rated at 500 rms, my amp is underrated at 600 rms, closer to 750 rms at true 14.4 volts. If I go the tc epic route at 1 ohm, will it help prevent the amp from shutting off if I turn the gain down? I will have to anyways to prevent the amp from blowing the sub (theoretically anyways). But considering that newer subs are not so sensitive to being somewhat over powered as they used to be. I just don't want to burn up my amp, and at near $200, I don't want to blow the sub. So, will turning down the gain help prevent the amp from overheating and shutting off?

All the subs we've mentioned are underrated. They'll take that amp. A lot of people put sundown SA series subs (600rms) on 1200 watts daily.

But what can I do to prevent my amp from overheating and shutting down at that 1 ohm load? Which the tc epic 10" is really a 3.78 or 3.72 ohm load in series, which would, in my mind, make it less than 1 ohm since my amp is internally bridged. I just don't want to find my self trying to replace a good amp with a cheap amp bc I burned up the good amp.

Whoa. Step away from the computer for a few hours and whamo! Thank you all for your input. You're some good folks. I'll have to start checking all these subs out and seeing what I can hear local. Local being the BFE of BFE. I've got 3 children, and 3 dogs that travel with me a lot. I also have hearing loss ( too many years behind a trigger), and it tales a truly unique sub to do it for me. I do shy away from 12's because I listen to a lot of country, rock, and gospel. R&B, soul, and some bass music occasionally. Maybe the tech has improved enough that 12's are as responsive as 10's, and if that is the case, I'd be open to a good tight sounding 12. As far as so little power, it does what I'm looking for. I know there are a lot of high wattage, cheaply priced amps out there, but they don't always last and I can't afford $2000-5000 for a quality, high wattage amp (see 7th sentence in). I have to make do with what I've already got. Just looking to add some after market highs, mids, and lows. Thought about the L7 but don't want a box that size. And I know there are better subs for the money. Bet I just made somebody mad with that last statement. Sorry if I did. But now I've got to start doing some research and locating. What do ya'll think about Memphis subs? Are they decent or just not worth the money?
I think you have to start off by breaking some myths here. 10s do not player faster than 12s just because they are smaller. You want a sub to play faster? Give it some more power. This also depends on the woofer you choose (not the size) and the box it goes in. From what I've read, the L7 is not a sub you get when you want sound quality. Pretty much any of the above recommended subs would work for you. I would also concentrate on the enclosure. From experience, the enclosures I like the most for music are tuned to low 30s with about 1.5 cu ft net per sub. If the box is too big, it can get sloppy. I only have experience with entry level memphis subs and I still have a pair of 10s laying around somewhere. They're entry level, so can't expect much. Their higher end line up is probably good. My first choices would be the Flatlyne or the Tantric MD just because I almost bought those myself. You can really either toss a coin or just go by whichever ones is aesthetically more pleasing to you. Reason being is that they are all extensively and positively reviewed. Let me know what you end up with.

Here's a good read on building an SQ system, you can focus on the subwoofer section for now:
