need advice on buying new system

i am in the process of lookin for a new stereo system for my car....i have a budget of 2000 and want something that sounds really good but have no idea of what companys are good and whats not good....im looking for a high quality head unit, subs and amp...any suggestions on what i should be lookin at

What kind of car? WHat can you fit? Do you give a **** about trunk space??

its a 2005 mazda 3.....i dont really care how much of my trunk the subs will take up. i just want something that has alot of bass and sounds good, i dont wanna spend money and get something that sounds like garbage or rattles....
