Need A SQ 12" Sub for $400-$450

i got a pair of boston acoustics pro60 comps for front stage and a pair of boston acoustics sx 5.25" coaxiles for rear fill. all powered by a MTX Thunder Elite 404 4 channel amp.

There are quite a few really nice subs in that price range but finding something that can be run at 2 ohms is more difficult than I thought.

Here are some subs to consider:

Image Dynamics IDMax

JL W6v2

JBL GTi (if you're going for pure SQ, the slight loss of power really won't make a huge difference)

Rainbow Profi/Vanadium

DLS Iridium

Those are all solid subs in the SQ department.

get an idmax you won't be dissapointed...Jl is good but everyone has them or has heard of them be different and hell these things are really good and will give jl's a run for their money any day

I still do not understand why everyone is so concerned with a SQ sub drivers. I was once told, if you have the front stage dialed in you can win comps with a bazooka tube, I still to this day believe that. Of course I do run the IDMax myself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif But sonsider witha solid front stage with solid midbass your subs can and should be IMO crossed over at 50hz and down or even below that. I am personally shooting for 40hz and down during my rebuild. As far as sub drivers, any of the ones listed are solid performers. The Fi Q is indeed one to look at as well, sealed of course.

IDQ > IDMax
Well that depends on your application. The IDQ is an amazing sounding driver but the IDmax edges it out in low frequency extension whether sealed or ported. The IDQ just doesn't have any low end when sealed. In car, my IDQ peaked around 55hz and barely got down to 40hz -- it was pretty inaudible at 30hz too. This was in about 1 cube. Ported, it did much better but was still lacking sub 35hz. Excellent sounding driver but the FR wasn't really there for me. The IDMax sounds just as nice but has more linear excursion and can get down low either ported or sealed.

Also, for his situation, the IDMax will be great off of 600wrms while I believe the IDQ would struggle if pushed hard. I know that I could almost reach max excursion on a little less than 200 watts on mine in 1.5 @ 30hz.
