Right brand, wrong piece of equipment...plunge routers have metal shafts on either side that the motor and bit assembly slides up and down on. That looks like something that just does trim.

Ryobi, Porter Cable, Makita & Hitachi all make excellent routers.

You can use fix base routers for speaker cutouts if you drill a hole to insert the

bit, it's not as cool as a plunge. For other type of woodworking the fixed is

better. You really need both types. But for speakers the plunge is nice and to me

the most important variable is horsepower. Cheap routers are useless when

trying to do work with 3/4" thick {or greater} wood. Then, to make matters

worse people buy cheap bits, cheap routers and cheap bits = bad results. I

would get a 3 horse router and some Freud or White Side bits.

Normally 3 horse routers are in the $300 range, but this one is $159 for 3 horses.

Another variable, do you want the router to be compatible with the jasper jig?

You should see which routers mate to that jig.

Variable speed pwns, a must have if you ask me.

meh, ryobi isnt too bad, especially for the money. if you are going to be using it alot though, id go for a dewalt or porter cable. I have a ryobi, and id like a better router. looks like the others have covered the difference between a plunge router and fixed base though.
