i locked it last night after i bought it and then today i went to open it (no insurance yet gotta get that this week) and it doesnt work so i called the guy and he said thats the only key and he "forgot" to tell me....only paid 700 for it (beater truck) so what do you expect...ill get in with a hanger when i get home, but id still like to have a key so i dont have to leave it unlocked.

Gotcha now. I was thinking you just recently locked it while the truck might have been on.

I also forgot the main key that starts it, don't open the door locks. Should have asked the guy about that when you bought it. To be fair, he should of told you that first.

I think it's about $75 to get the locksmith to make you a key by making a template. Ask the dude to pay for it, if he says no try and get at least half it is the least he can do.

Option 1 take it to a locksmith and have a key made for the doors.

Option 2 take it to a locksmith and replace the pins to work with the ignition key.

Option 3 don't lock it.

pick the one you like the best.

There should be a code in the glovebox on the build sheet...that you can give to a locksmith and they can make you a key from...he shouldn't even have to look at your truck...when you call about the key being made they will tell you what you need...it may even be from the VIN number...I know I had a key made...for a vehicle once...where the door key came up missing after I called thinking I was gonna have to change out all my locks it turned out to be quite simple.....

no rush as i cant drive it until i get a tag for it anyways.

i didnt even think to check though. not really something you would think about, he handed me a key, i was like ok......didnt think it wouldnt open the doors LOL

ok so i bought a dodge dakota and the bastard gives me the key but apparently it only works for the ignition not the doors (no power locks) WTF and he doesnt have the other key says he "forgot to tell me"........any ideas...its an 88 dakota.

locksmith can either make you a key, or rekey it to fit your current key.
