Need 3 efficient 10's.....

Important Fact: I have an Alpine Mono Amp that pushes 600x1 at 2 ohms. I have a custom box for three subs, so with 3 8ohm subs I can get down to 2.6ohm, about 550watts. So, I have about 175 watts per sub to offer.

Here is the deal, i bought a 2000 accord. The previous owner has a custom built fiberglass box that was ported and tuned specifically for 3 10" Infinity Perfect subs. I bought the box. It is approx 2.8cf ported. He still has the subs. One of the 3 has dust cone damage where a bolt from the trunk fell onto it while it was playing. No holes or anything like that, but the dust cover does have some dings in it... Looks to be just visible damage.

I'm trying to decide if I should stick with the Infinity's because I already have a box that is custom tuned for them. He says it was tuned for SQ and even has a few trophies. He wants $300 for all 3 subs. I can get the subs new online for about $120 each. But thats online, not much of a warranty unless I want to ship them back ($$$$ for shipping).. If I buy them from a local dealer that will handle the warranty, Im looking at $200 per sub.. Im not a big fan of Infinity, but i'm thinking i'll get better sound because the box is tuned for them, vs getting what is a better SQ sub but putting them in a box that isnt tuned for them.

Then there is this, my friend works at a car audio store, is the sales manager, and will pretty much match any price I can find online. But he doesn't carry infinity. He carries Rockford, Alpine, Boston, and Kenwood. I currently have a single Rockford Fosgate P3 getting 150 watts in a sealed box and it sounds pretty **** good. underpowered I know, but it does the trick. I can get the P3's from my friend for about $160 each. However, he recommends the Boston G2's for the ported box and the amount of power I have.

I was also looking at the JLw1's and the JLw3's. I went up the local dealer that carries JL, and they recommended the w1's over the w3's for the amount of power that I have. I love the way the w3's look and sound, but im not sure how they would work in my box.

I'd like to spend less than $500. I can get the w1's for less than $100 each, and I like that because I can abuse them and not be so freaked out if I have to buy another one here and there... I have a P3 with low power and it sounds good. I wouldn't mind having 3 of them, as long as they would behave in the ported box. I'm not a fan of Infinity, but I know the perfect's can sound pretty **** good and I have a box that was tuned for them. Im thinking keeping with the perfects would provide the best SQ.

I'll have my amp rack done by next week, so I'm looking to acquire the subs and close out this chapter within 1-3 weeks. Can I get some recommendations?

Any idea what the volume and tuning of the box actually is?
not really... the guy who owned it said its about 2.8-3.0 cubic feet... i can go measure the port if necessary.

btw, the 1 P3 10" at 150watts is almost loud enough... I think any combo of 10's with 500rms total in a ported box will be loud enough... SQ is what i want, which is why im wondering if I should just stick to the kind of subs the box was tuned for.

just go to crutchfield.com and get yourself infinity kappa perfect 10.1 but its only a single 4 ohm ones. Kicker is that buy one get one free, so for $150 you get 2 10" or 4===for $300 and free shipping. If you are new customer, then PM me for additional $20 off coupon, its a referral code and no tax.

so sell one for $60buck+$20coupon-$300==$220 final price and no tax, plus 3yr warranty and crutchfield excellent service.

inifinity is all about SQ and its 94 sensitivity is very effecient, only image dynamics are more or same, I think. you could hook all three up for total of 1.34ohm final load, but wouldn't work with your amp. Maybe look into the wiring diagram section of this website to hook up 3--10" differnt ways either combo of series/parallel to arrive at 2 ohm load.

And forget those local audio retailer, bunch of rip off artist. last time I was in there, they told me $50 for a lightining audio 0/1 anl fuse holder, got it on ebay for $10 shipped.

TC-1000's will beat up W3's even Type-R's

Larger motor than both, more xmax than both and designed for ultra SQ with a copper shorting ring and very low inductance. Highly linear TC2+ motor, single spider suspension with woven leads and very complaint soft parts that include a real aluminum cone and rubber surround. They are still made in the US.

...and they just went onsale yesterday 148 each

the infinities wouldnt be bad i've some some 12''s and they were good you could also look at pioneer they have efficient subs and they are cheap.....i had a pioneer 12" that i gave only 80 watts and it bumped and it was only $50 on onlinecarstereo.com

You can't do a series parallel with 3 SVC subs and get it to work out.

D4 or SVC 8 ohm are the best bet. It might also be possible to put a delete panel over the opening for the center sub and do something to make it look nice. That will leave you with more airspace for each sub, you will only need 2 (cheaper) and it leaves you with more wiring options opening up more possibilities for subs that will work well.

I didnt think you could wire subs at different impedences on the same channel, ie 3 dvc subs with say 1 at 2ohm and the others at 8? wouldnt one sub get more power than the others?

And I weasel deals out of the local retailers. I'm straight up with them. If you dont match a price, You dont get my business.

But the box is tuned for 3, if I only use 2, that would mess up the tuning?

okay, here the answer to your situation.

buy the infiinity from crutchfield,, 4 of them as instructed in my post(sell one) for $220 total

so that leaves you with that 2 ohm mono amp, so sell it here or on ebay for some cash( I figure you get about $100) and then buy used directed 1100d or mono 1000 watt---1 ohm rated for about $150-180shipped price. could get lower if you go for the lanzar and other brands.

so you could be still spending under your budget,,, $220 +$80 for mono 1 ohm amp==300 depending on outcome of buy and sell amps.
