n00b reciever HELP!!!

Ok, I've gotten the PS3 to work, both audio and video.....Now I just need to get the audio from my tv to play through my speakers and I'll be fine....The inputs for dvd and and v1 are both hdmi1...but the tv is hooked up through the hdmi ouput (as instructed by the guide.) any ideas??

What do I assign the TV too since it is an OUTPUT on the reciever..

Uhh yeah how eles are you going to get the sound from your TV to your 604? Unless you connect an optical cable from your Directv or cable box to your 604 or one from your tv to the 604. You cant expect the 604 to give you surround sound if you dont give it sound to process. Ie.. you need to connect the source you want in surround sound to the 604, just like you did with the ps3

That was his explanation.....does it make sense?

go to target or walmart they have ok ones for cheap if you dont have an optical cable

i bought my hdmi cable from walmart and it was only $30 lol but i seen one just like at target for $17 lol i think optical cables are around 15-25 i know radio shack had the wrong price on one i bought it costs $80 and i snagged it for $17 lol 3 days later they found out and put the $80 price tag i had came back to buy them all and resell them on ebay //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So how do I know whether to hook it up to cable box or tv
well does your cable box have an optical output? if so then hook it up right their. and if you dont have a cable box and the cable wire goes directly to your tv then you look for an optical output on the tv

WORKS GREAT NOW!! The SQ is a million times better than my tv!! Now I just gotta get the speaker placement and test everything.
first and foremost post pictures!!!

and be sure to do the auto setup? (not sure but with my receiver it sounds better after the auto setup)

and hell yah those tiny tv speakers cant touch a decent ht setup. i used to think i was happy with the tv speakers but not even close i hear sounds on my hd-dvds now that ive never heard. i say a good 20-30% more sounds then with my yamaha stuff

ps enjoy your new ht //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif go get yourself some blur ray movies like mission impossible 3 and be prepared to be blown away //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I am going to wait until later in the week to post pics (waiting for the eD speaker stands for my bookshelfs to come in).

I have a few blu-ray and I can't WAIT to watch em!!

THanks for all your help!

I have this reciever and during Rock Band on PS3, it turns off when the volume is at 55 or higher, or when the song gets loud, which is relatively low...and I don't have this problem with any other function of the tv.

Any ideas?
