k well i went to the local shop and i was tlaking to the guy there...he's start bad mouthing about bestbuy n all that..so im thinking he mite know a lot bout car audio..but then i asked him bout the big three and if they do it...he said "what's that...a best buy thing?" then im thinking to my head that he doesnt know much either...i told him exactly what it was and he said that upgrading the wires wont do nothing...i told him that im from a forum and thats where i got it from..and he starts saying that ppl on forums dont know what they're doing and everything is a waste such as the big 3...so im just laughing in my head thinking how local stores think they mostly know everything...just wanted to share this experience with u guys...u probably had a lot of stories like this too

Well a local store up in shreveport (Near my home town) Hooked up 2 JL amps a 250/1, and a 2150e off of 8 gauge wire, and they also applied some dynamat 1/2 of which fell off. And the best part is that they left a huge chunk of styrofoam inside the door pannel...so the window wouldnt roll down. All of this was in my girlfriends car...So the next day I take the car to the shop that did the install, and I tell them the problems. So an Hour later they come out, and say "Who touched the Gains on that amp?" I said that it was me, and that they (the shop) had them turned all the way up, so i went back and set them with a DMM. After I said that he replied "thats why it didnt sound right...Dont you know that the gains have to be maxed for the amp to reach its full potential". At that point I got the Keys took the car home, and re wired it myself (the way i should of done it in the first place).

yeah i found it funny when my friend took his car to a shop after i told him he had a bad RCA and thats why the sub wasnt playing, then the shop tells him to turn the stereo loud and he starts unplugging and plugging in the RCAs and i just walked away and by a miracle his amps didnt get ****ed... hes lucky, then they tell him its a bad RCA.

I would have taken some kind of legal action on those idiots. That is just rediculous.

like some local places r good...they can do their stuff..but their typical recommendations r so stupid...

oh yeah forgot to say one more thing...the guy i talked to said that install schools r not good...he said they dont teach u anything good..is this true?

A lot of shops just reccomend anything, whether they know what they are talking about or not, just to make a profit.

But as for the schools, it would depend on the school...

lol
local shops - years of hands on expirience

forum peopl - what they've seen people type
Hope you're not serious because there's plenty of people on this forum that work at local shops that actually know what they are doing. Ramos and Req off the top of my head. To say that forum people have no hands on "expirience" is retarted.

i dunno if its just me but every time i go into a store and start talkin to these ppl.. they piss me off. they dont know wut the hell there doin.
i agree...well the ppl i experienced with seem like they wanna show off what they know...

one surpirsing though is the best buy near my house..its the only best buy i know that the workers dont talk crap...ive came to know them and i also reccomend things to them too..they know they dont know everything and atleast they dont say bull to me...this is in canada though...

I will take the expertise of my local shop over 99.99999999999999% of what I have read on the forums. The other .000000000000001% is reserved for a select few.

To the orginal poster, do you think it is possible that the installer didn't understand the reference of "the big three." Maybe he knows the wiring, but just isn't familiar with that term. I am not saying that the big 3 is a waste of time, just that just because he didn't know that reference doesn't mean he doesn't know something.

He is right though, much of what is on the forums is bad information. You said, " he's start bad mouthing about bestbuy n all that..so im thinking he mite know a lot bout car audio"

That line is priceless for a few reasons. Anybody can badmouth BB or CC or whoever. Does that mean they "mite" know something about car audio?

I wouldn't let the local BB or CC change a fuse in my car, but there are BBs/CCs out there that do good work.
