My system "Stinks"

This is the first time I've had an amp mounted close to the seating area, under front pass. seat, so maybe this is normal.

Anyway, JL HD 900/5 running 4 JL C2-650x's and a JL 8w7. Ran on quality 4ga. wire. The only under hood work right now is a 4ga. Bat->Body ground.

If I crank it up on a good tune, doesn't have to be a bass heavy song, I get an electrical, band-aid like, smell in the car. I'm not turning it up to the point of distortion or clipping, it sounds great just smells.

Smells like your clipping to me. Whats your quality 4 gauge wire?

What HU are you using? What is the gain set at? How did you set the gain? Whats the bass boost at? Whats the bass setting on the HU?

All gains were set by the local shop that did the install. The 4ga was purchased locally at Parts Express, JSC Wire and Cable Power Force, visually it looks identical to the Streetwires I've used in the past. Let me take a look at the gains. Head unit is a JVC Arsenal KD-A815 with 5v outputs

Feel the amp when you smell it..If it's hot it might be amp. If a coil was consistently being pushed to the "smell" point it would just burn and fill the car with smoke shortly after smelling anything if not turned down/off asap.

That amp is a beast, if you don't give it adequate current it will heat up. This includes alternator to battery in heavy gauge too...not just battery - ground. You may not be getting all your alternator can give the battery, if the system is drawing on the battery a lot, your alt is struggling and you may need to turn down the amp/head unit or upgrade some more stuff.

It could be numerous things..Could be the head unit, piece of wire melting, Tinsel lead, Coil, amp, could have a bad ground, bad power connection, bad speaker connection inside or outside the box, could be totally unrelated to the audio, could be a mosfet...Could be a lot of different things.

Recommendation : Fine Toothed Comb & a Professional

Not sure if they metered it or just what. All look to be set about the same

Sorry, I'll have to get back to this tomorrow, it's our anniversary and my wife is telling me we have to leave //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The Sub gain is at 3 o'clock and the front and rear are closer to 2 O'clock, not sure what if any method the shop used to set it.
