my subwoofer starts to smell after extneded period of use

if you had two kicker 12s in the same box and now you only have one i would guess your box is entirely to big, and the sub can only take a few hundred watts in a box that big
Please explain how box volume has any bearing on thermal capacity of the coil on a woofer?

OP, you are putting too much power into it. Either turn your **** down or buy a sub that can handle more power (preferably not kicker)

this.... lol..... i would love to get rid of my wifes L7..... but she dont want to spend to get a better sub lol

i wasnt specifically answering the question more relating to another. if you are in a huge box the mechanical limitations of the sub are lowered to a lower power limitation

so so my 2ohm cvr is putting out 4ohms? which is too strong? i know the amp is 2ohm. will i be okay if i just don't blase it to often? i thought if u have a 2ohm amp and 2ohm woofer would be okay

OP didn't say they were bottoming out, he said they were smoking.
i also went on to explain how the box could affect the coil when ported. my guess the box is too small and tuned relatively high causing him to over drive the sub to catch the low notes, even if the box was to big if its tuned to high and the sub is trying to catch the low notes he may be overdriving the sub to catch the low notes. both can be fixed by turning down the gain

yes, looking at a wiring diagram beside me here, if both are dvc2ohm subs, and running a pair in series/parallel will give you a 2ohm load, and simply removing one sub will throw you in a 4ohm load, but you have the gains up for the pair, so you need to make the adjustment for a single sub being ran.just turn her down as i stated earlier, and you will be fine

sell them and replace them with something like a sundown or a incriminator
since you are telling him to put his subs up for sale, you willing to buy them??? not everyone on here can afford to buy $150 subs, maybe youd like to donate some funds upon buying his ? if not dont trash someones equipment,he asked for help with an issue, and you are not helping with the question in general...just bashing/post dumping like an a s s

i'll turn it down a bit...just one of the settings on the amp itself? but is the only real fix would be ot get a 4ohm sub?
