My subs sound awful...

I just looked at the fuses in the dist block, and they are only 40 amp fuses for each 1200.1 , and I know the 1200.1 requires at least 80 amp.

If these were too small they would just blow correct?

They arent hindering how much power each amp gets are they?

With the gains cranked all the way up, I cant blow the fuses(which I would think they would blow). I know with my ported box I was blowing 60 amp fuses left and right. Any input?

that could be a huge problem. you are basically cutting your amps power in half. If your amps have an 80amp fuse and you are running the power to it thru a 40amp, then its not going to get enough juice to perform like it should. Upgrade your fuses to whatever is behind it. A fuse is basically just a protection from shorts. They dont pop when you turn the volume up. Unless you're running some massive system on a 5amp fuse......

also, have you got any pics of your setup? or maybe a drawing of it? this might help with visuals.

Dj riggz...check my previous posts in this thread for a link to my pics. The amp itself is not fused, only at the dist block.

With my ported boxes I was able to pop the 80 amp fuses on hard, long bass notes.

well, I switched out the 40 amp fuses with 2 80 amp fuses...so that's not the problem. I have absolutely no clue what is wrong. Normally I can figure this stuff out pretty quickly. HELP!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm definately a n00b when it comes to this crap... but i think a simple process of elimination will benefit you more than anything in this case...

If you have a friend who has a pair of good subs that roughly match you're amps output... try hook em up and see what happens... or if you have some old ones of you're own... any test with other subwoofers will clearly tell you whether the problem is the subs or the amp..

I have a feeling something is busted with you're amp and thats all... If two of you're friend's subs in an an enclosure connected to you're amp sound the way they are supposed to (like they do in you're friend's car)... you know you're subs are to blame... and if they don't... well... you get the point...

Its highly unlikely that those subs naturally sound like crap... and you have two of them that sound the same which makes some sort of driver failure highly unlikely.

with this proof by contradiction you won't end up spending all you're money on 2 new subwoofers when all you needed to replace is a busted amp, or head unit, or whatever you isolite as the problem... my 2 cents..

best of luck!

Hundredth..BOTH amps are messed up? One of them worked perfectly fine before. I just got the other one..and it seems to work fine too. Im beginning to blame the boxes...but with the gains CRANKED, and the volume turned up kinda loud the subs barely reach their limits. Im about to throw it off a cliff!

Sorry, I did not realize you had 2 amps.

But still, try replace them with a set of different subwoofers before buying new ones just to make sure nothing else is wrong... too many things to consider before making a purchase... especially something as big as 2 XXXs

Are your boxes square? Is the wall that the subs are mounted in parallel to the wall on the opposite side of the box? If so, maybe you are getting some standing waves or cancellation...
