ok i am 90% sure this is the setup i am going to get

2 12" Elemental K's

1 JBL 1200.1

i would like to know if i would need a new battery or alt for this setup.??

i believe my alternator now is around 110-115 amps.

i will also be adding in a head unit and possibly speakers

well that amp should draw between 100-110 amps...so i'd recommend you get your alternator rewound and then see how it works out...but just ask around and you'll quickly see that you dont want a capacitor //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

unlike you guys...i can get 200A alternators for free. good thing my uncle owns an autoshop.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

if its like 30 bux np but if its 200 dollars... then jbl 600.1 i shall buy
You can buy brand new ~200 amp alts for ~$200, depending on car..

My Blazer has a 100 amp alt in it.. To get a new 200 amp alt for it is like ~$250? or there abouts.. like ~$160 for the 165 amp.. I don't have the link to the guy's site here... you can do a search for 'alternator' (spell it right though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ) and see what you get.. I've not seen anything online about re-winding, but I'd immagine that's something you would just have done in town at a shop.. I might have to check into that at some point (1800 RMS system on the way, ~265amps at full draw *sigh*.. hmm, how long would the stereo play before the battery melted down? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/satan.gif.9c6a335ed7aeeed3ee273e573f1fcaac.gif )

Anyway, I'd suggest the bigger amp and just keep the gains down till you save for the bigger alt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

**** alts are cheap in suvs my 150a alternator for my 1989 acura legend cost me $350..... 1800 watts at full draw I dont think you would need a 200a alternator for that we caalculated my draw for when I was about to get my alternator we caculated it... see im gonna be running around 1860 watts and i cacu;lated that i woulc still hace around 25 amps to spare.......... so is the amp your using not efficient?

I did the calc on a 50% efficiency on AB class amps.. class D are a LOT more efficient (~80% as I understand).. I probably should have looked for some of those...

I won't know the actual efficiency on the amps till I get them.. should be here soon.. Can't find any decent specs for them online (Lanzar Vibe248, 1200s).. I'm hoping the box has a spec sheet *sigh* I'd rather not have to wire for 0/AWG if I can avoid it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The actual amp draw I have listed at clipping (I'm presuming the calculator I'm using isn't looking at the clipping draw since that would be amp dependant I think?) is 255 amps at 14.1 volt (261 amps at 13.8 volt) .. with 1 1000 RMS amp and 1 800 RMS amp.. They are rated at 2400 max (combined), but that's not what I'm using in the calcs, just what I can get out of them clean (according to the specs anyway)..
