My Single 10" Blowthrough, complete install in '03 S10 (pics!)

I like the both installs, especially the detail and groundwork you did that most people overlook. The (4) 10 setup is just sick, love the pexi cover and neon. I have always wanted to do a blowthrough but never had the balls to cut up any of my trucks. Nice simple setup that your happy with.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

well, I've read this whole thread, so I guess I might as well post.

I don't get why people sale " all that for a 10". So what. Just because he cut some sheet metal, that means he MUST add more subs that he DOESN'T want or need? He did what he want and got what he wanted for HIS vehicle.

People go crazy and deaden/seal their doors for what? all for a 6.5"? no difference here...

I don't think it's overkill for a 10". There'll be no flexing from that box. That's more than I can say for many of the members here. Someone also mentioned something about the box being perfectly squared. I've also heard that that may cause some problems with standing waves or whatnot.

I think this install is quite nice with nice equipment. What I would do differently is to go active and ditch those passive x-overs.

Is there any safe way to mount the sub box to the cabin instead of the bed?

Here are a few pics of the one I did last year, taken with my phone. Sorry the quality isn't as good. These are the only pics I could find for now:

Blue LEDs were used to light the subs, and a buddy of mine who runs a sign shop cut the Alpine logo out of 1/4" plexi. This was more for show... I prefer the sound of the new setup with nothing covering the sub. The Alpine logo was all the way cut out, so it wasn't sealed off/bandpass, but it sounds better the way I have the new one. Flame away I guess...
Dude that looks fucking nice! I think those are my favorite type of installs if you have any more pics please pm me.

Hey man, looks good. I also "killed the resale value" of my 2003 S-10 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif If I had it to do again I wouldn't hesitate! Good luck getting that SQ like you want it

Thanks guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif To whoever was asking about the pics of my 4 10s, I'll have to see what I can dig up. I did love that install... definitely was a looker! I may do something similar in this one eventually, but am super happy with it for now. I played with the gains on my 4 channel and man, the components woke up!!! The tweeters are in the dash, and the components are bi-amped. The blend between mid and sub is the most seamless transition I've ever installed. I'm sure there is stuff out there that would blow mine away, but to have under $1500 in my entire install (minus the electrical) and to have it sound the way it does is incredible. I am considering re-doing the box, for aesthetics mostly, or possibly a ported design, but not sure yet. I'm going to have to see what my plans are for the future... I've seen some pics of stuff on here and DIY the last week that have made me consider another route for the blow through... just have to see how flexible it will be considering where the existing hole is. As for now though I am incredibly happy with it. My sound stage is just above the dash, and from what I can tell, close to center. There is still some bias to the right, even though I've played with the TA, and I am still learning to tune, so I'm sure it could sound better, but it's incredible for what it is.

Man, there are some real asshats on this site.

I would love to know the reasoning why so many people say it's a little overkill for a 10. Betcha wouldn't say that if it had these letters in it DD? Whatever! I think it is a sick install and wouldn't do a thing different. I don't see how he hacked, chopped or ruined his truck. People are funny on here.

Awesome install Mike! I betcha it sounds real good and are happy with it, which when it comes down to it, that is all that matters anyway. Don't let this ignorant fools on here piss you off. They feed off of that shit like crackheads needing a fix.

Only thing I would do if it was my truck would be to get some type of cover for it just in case. Just my opinion though. Again looks awesome and I can see you have spent some hours on that bish. Good luck!

Good job Mikey.

It looks good, its clean it's finished, you did it in a weekend and most importantly it sounds good and you took good pictures to show us. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks... so apparently the 6 layers of rubberized undercoating I coated the box with, that was supposed to be waterproof, wasn't... lol. We got about 4 days of rain in the last week, which NEVER happens in AZ in the winter, and it made it through the first 2, but by the third the stuff started flaking off and even exposed wood in a few corners. So rather than risk waiting till I did the spray in bedliner over it, I made a new box with a few changes I decided I wanted to make anyway, and put 3 layers of fiberglass resin on it. I will be painting it black, then doing another layer of resin over the paint, instead of doing the spray in bedliner over it. It should still blend in somewhat, because it will be black, but allows me to change the box out if I decide to, without having to tear up a bunch of bedliner. The new box is exactly 1.0 ft^3 after sub displacement and fits the hole in the bed/cab a little better.
