You can check the impedance of the voice coil(s) with a dmm, if you have two set of terminals on the sub(one on either side) then it is dvc otherwise svc

Some dvc subs only have one set of terminals still.

And thanks for the good responses I. SHOCKED almost disapointed (I mean I ecpected it with w7 in the title) lol but for me and jl and w7 to get bashed pretty hard by people

I'm running one 10w7 in a JL HO box off 750w and am very satisfied. Before I was running 2 12" type r's (4.3 @31). This 10w7 will murder the lows and gets loud at the same time. I couldn't be happier considering it was a craigslist find.

The W7 will get loud but wont produce big numbers. They have that loud sound but dont meter very well. A JL rep will tell you that.

i want to see how much spl i can get out of w7s as well figured the W7 itself if it lives up to what its supposed to be should make up some SQ on its own

I want to see how much spl I can get from 4 12 inch w7s...I figured that the w7 is a sq sub so that it should sound good while im trying to get spl.

If your not running jl amps Run three at 1 ohm. The four subs result in a weird ohm rating. If I remember correctly its .67 ohms which will cause a problem with a lot of amps. Don't have experience with AP but if it's not .5 ohm stable you will overheat or go into protect. I never metered any system ihad but 4 12w7's in a Tahoe on a pair of 1000/1's got ridicously loud.

the amp will be upgraded in due time...they are solid tho id reccemend them to anyone not looking to spend a fortune.

Also is there anything to coat the inside of the box with to maximize airflow..

here are some quick pics...one w7 like i said has a rough surround dont mind the sony it was some temporary bass lol just to have SOMETHING. 98 explorer needs cleaned and everything as you can see..

box was made for 2011 t1s specs 2 cubes per sub after displacement tuned to 32 hertz. JL says w7 need 1.75 so after the adding of the larger basket and magnent it will be very close!

U are a lucky man, very nice set of subs... But I would ditch the AP amp... I mean you are running JL W7s on a really crappy amp. Get a MMATS that is .5 stable and do work!!!

I didn't pay for a single one of them just trades but yes I def did! They are read exactly at 3 ohms no funky smells no sagging spiders nut they are old
