FIRSTLY: I know the w7 is not the god to all subs and i know there are better for the price i am not arguing any of this. I know a lot of people hate JL i can understand hating their price but in honesty people have to admit its pretty solid quality.

Now i also know that this is a hugely popular subwoofer even though its overpriced A LOT of people have or do own them so experience should be common.

With that said i basically want thoughts/FACTS/number/opinions about these SPECIFIC subwoofer

you may use another to compare but I DONT CARE ABOUT WHAT IS BETTER

I will be the proud and happy owner of 4 of these after tomorrow (no worries i would NEVER paid full or even used prices for them probably though used its a decent buy!)

- I want to know what AMP or AMPS within reason to power all 4.

- Can a w7 take more than rated if so what has been found safe or should i not even bother trying to put more than 1000 rms into one?

- How loud can a single w7 get? 135? more? How loud could 4 get any guesses?

- I always thought these were Dual coil subs but they are single 3 ohm? is this true

- How to wire 4 of them to a AP3000d to get the most power to each sub dont tell me to change amps i will later for now this is what im working with (already asked about other options in previous bullet)

- I know the foam surrounds can be replaced is this easy to do? 2 of mine have kind of a rough surround just personally an eye sore no real issues

Extra notes

Ill be running them in a ford explorer sport (2 door) box i already have is going to be almost perfect for each subs reccamended air space ported roughly 1.8 cubes per speaker after displacement tuned to 32 hertz. Subs up port back

Flame on! discuss! give opinions but most of all PLEASE answer the questions legitimately while doing so THANKS

They don't safely take much more than 1KW for long. A guy around here does 142's (I think...possibly a little more) with a 13" off a 1000/1 in a very good box.

You can buy recone kits from JL which are horribly expensive. I'd gorilla tape the surround before I paid for that.

Not 100% sure about your other questions. I believe there are a couple different coil impedence options. The guy I know who does good numbers with his has dual 1.5

okay so if power handling is box dependent what makes the difference? and is larger/smaller/ported/sealed going to allow best power? I know what one gives best output but what are your opinions of the box i described?

And thanks thats fairly impressive for a single woofer id say. Granted mine arnt 13's.

but yeah i know the 13 is different than the rest its a D 1.5

yeah i heard you could get them reconed i didnt think it was possible but your right im sure the price isnt right lol BUT i did see you can buy specifically the surround replacement indepent from the whole kit..can get a pair for about 50 dollars off ebay i thought that was kind of neat but im weary about myself attempting to do this im guessing it takes the right tools to do it properly or im sure i can find a way to mess it up lol

if the one 13 could hit in 140s id sure as hell hope 4 12s could and hopefully get maybe 150's (when powered properly) who knows

but yeah what do you gain with smaller as far as output/sound and vise vera

Smaller boxes generally wont produce the lower frequencies. His 13w7 iant your setup. Yours could be a bust and never see a 145. You want spl or musical? If youre building for musuc who cares what number you do as long as youre happy

um i will mainly be using it for musical like i am not trying to just get burps but i want to see how much spl i can get out of w7s as well figured the W7 itself if it lives up to what its supposed to be should make up some SQ on its own

Eh I think it was understandable. But anyways I want to see how much spl I can get from 4 12 inch w7s...I figured that the w7 is a sq sub so that it should sound good while im trying to get spl. So basically I get my spl but its not JUST loud

Power handling isn't really box dependent unless your box is some sort of special cooling chamber or freezer. That sub will smell funny if you get on it hard with the 1000/1, It may take more heat, but the more power you give it the quicker it will burn. As far as mechanical handling IMO you'd have to be a complete retard to break it off of 1000W so I wouldn't worry much about that.

You may be able to buy surround only, but from my experience cutting surround away from the cone is a little dicy (though perhaps some sort of solvent will help without destroying the cone?), and of course when you glue on the new surround you'll need to figure out something so you don't misalign the coil.

Really too many variables to tell you what you will meter. If your goal is loud on the meter I'm sure you can do it. Really box design, placement and aiming and tuning are more important than the woofers.

The box the guy up here used was very big and used a very big port. Took up a good bit of space in a large SUV. Be prepared to invest some cargo area into this.
