My IDQ10 is very disappointing

Hi, I went from a 15" SPL oriented sub to a low powered 10" SQ sub, in a sealed box, in my trunk, with large amounts of foam, plastic, metal and upholstery between it and me... can someone tell me why its so quiet? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
IDQ10's will simply not survive on 500 watts each. If you think they will, its YOU that has too little experience with them. You are running 15's, the discussion is about 10's. There is a reason ID rates the 10's at half the power rating as the 15's. And frankly, its irresponsible for you to recommend such a setup when you have never tried it.

And before you ask, Im currently running two IDQ10's, and have used IDQ's in various sizes for over 10 years now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I ran 12's

No animosity though. I did give them 450-500 watts a side, in a 2.5 cubic foot ported enclosue tuned to 28hz.

On music would that be ok?

Of course.

Would I run test tones with 500 watts to them?

Nah, I probably wouldn't.

Looking into it the 12s are rated for a little bit more power than the 12's. That is somewhat uncommon.

All is well though.

A single sealed 10 in a trunk car is not going to have overwhelming bass. Add that with a low excursion, low output driver and you shouldn't have a ton of bass in the cabin.
Try popping the trunk open and see if it's louder in the cabin. Try removing the rear speakers as well.

Feeding it more power is not likely to help as adding power is a terrible way to increase output. If you play around with the sub placement and trunk clearing and things don't change, you should try going ported. Contrary to popular belief, a properly ported enclosure with that sub will yield excellent sound quality.
X2^^

The 12's are rated for 500 watts each, yes Im sure they worked just fine. But remember, the 10's have a smaller motor (iirc) and are rated for only 300 watts. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

edit: And my mistake... I dont know where I got the idea you had 15's. Must have been confused with someone else.

Wow, guys I feel very stupid right. I apologize for all for my stupidity. I had a filter on the sub so it wasn't playing any bass frequencies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif So, now it sounds awesome!! Best sq sub I've ever heard and it's plenty loud off the 200 watt AA amp =x Well, anyway now I am verrrry happy with this sub, sorry again for making a total a hole of myself. It was weird tho cuz the sub was moving =/ I don't know what I did, but forgive me and THIS SUB ROCKS =x

LOL!

No worries man, we all do stupid stuff sometimes. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

Glad you like it now.

So, I have an IDQ10 in about a 0.6 cu ft. sealed enclosure powered by an arc audio 200.2 I believe. It puts out 200wRMS at 4 ohms bridged. I'm running the gain at about 3/4 and the bass response feels like it barely reaches me from the trunk of my car (Nissan Sentra.) Should I be feeding it more power? Thanks.
I have had an IDQ10 and I know exactly what you are talking about. I know that ID recommends a small seale box, but I would really encourage you to try a ported box opposed to going for a new amp. I never did -- I just replaced the sub. However, I have seen several threads where people are running IDQ's ported.

Personally, I think that the IDQ's may need to be operated in pairs to get sufficient output.

I agree that they are very musical -- when you can hear them.

But maybe I just had sub filters on the amp, lol.

I believe the 10s are 250, and the 12s are 350

Nontheless, I've never had any real world experience with the 10's

Kind of strange that they would have different power ratings and motor size.

Subs in a certain series usually have the same motor and power handling.

Oh well

I ran mine sealed for a bit, then ported them.

Overall I was happier that I ported them.

10's are 300, 12's are 500, 15's are 600... per ID's website.
Yes, the IDQ being so famous for being a small sealed enclosure sub, I was amazed how well my 10's perform ported. If I had more output with this system, Id probably never change my sub stage again. A wall of IDQ's would be very nice. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

4 of them would meet all my spl needs.

2 wouldn't

I love the sound of the drivers, but they just don't get loud enough.

Such as life in the audio world. Where the audio gods giveth, they also taketh away.

It's pretty hard to have any non-linearity when you don't have much excursion potential. Pair that with good motor design and you have a nice woofer.
