My first setup (newcomer) - Any advise appreciated!

I will upload the video soon... will take a while as it's 9+ minutes long but the results really speak for themselves.

We compared against a very well respected 2.5" coil driver rated for 600-watts RMS -- many people do run much more than that to this particular driver.

The comparison was done simply to give a reference point.

I was wondering if it was just me or if I wasn't even tickling this driver thermally with 800+ watts on tap in my car (SAX-200.4 two channels bridged at 2 ohms)... so the question is now answered -- I really wasn't even close to the thermal limits as this 60 Hz test is brutal with very little excursion. On music where the sub is moving 4-5x more the cooling is enhanced by more air movement. So that answered the question about whether my little spacer ring is or is not doing what I wanted it to do

So what this tells me is that I'll probably bump up my official rating to 500 RMS on the SA-8 v.2 -- and that the limit is really purely mechanical on them. I CAN get it to full x-mech on the 200.4 in my car at very low frequencies under box tuning.

Got this from one of his threads on the v2.

So, I'm thinking about just buying 2 sa-8 v2's... I have a feeling I'll end up buying another in the future and don't want to waste $150 on a single channel amp. What amp should I go for?

If I went with just one sa-8 v2 would this build work good?

Wires? What else am I forgetting besides the box?

sub is a little bit cheaper plus free shipping from SSA

SSA Store - Sundown Audio SA-8 Subwoofer

that amp looks pretty good i would personally spend a little bit more and get something for if you want to upgrade and get another 8 like you were talking about.

this is 1 that comes to mind.

and here is a used 1 on the classifieds if you want to go that route

Well give me some sound advice then good sir. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I edited my post for ya.. do some research on Hifonics BRZ models. they do rated and you can find people who have clamped them to confirm that. I personally have heard friends/peoples kicker/rockford/sundown 1200 watt amps (400$+) and I'm not saying they arent high quality amps, but I cant justify spending double the price and not being able to notice any difference in sound quality or output

These are solid amps and for $150 it would blow that "Powerbass" out of the water

So I should get a d4 sa-8 regardless?
If you plan on upgrading to two subs, yes, because if you get a respectable decent amp it should be rated down to 1 ohm (two d4's = 1 ohm = most power you can get out of the amp)

You can always run it at 2 ohms or 4 ohms until you are ready get another sub to drop it down to 1 (depending on which one you get)

PowerBass? PPI? Soundstream? WTF... flea market junk that doesnt do half rated power..
HIFONICS BRUTUS BRZ1200.1D 1200W MONO D Car Amplifier 806576216773 | eBay

This will do **** near 1200rms x 1 ohm, equal in power to that SAZ1200 you dont wanna get.. and way higher quality than anything called "Powerbass"
hifonics is ok for the price but please do not act like any maxxsonics product is head and shoulders above anything really.

That hifonics amp will only power one sub, right? What RMS would the sa-8 run at?

I just purchased the d4 sa-8 v.2 so it should be here this week sometime I hope.

Now I need an amp, wiring, and to get a box or build my own?

Help this newbie out haha.

When did I say that? I was referring to PowerBass, PPI and soundstream. Which is complete junk...

Sundown SAX-1200 = 1200rms @ $600

Hifonics Brz 1200 = 1200rms @ $150

I personally have heard both on the same subs, and couldn't tell the difference.

If you can justify spending the extra 450$, by all means..

No.. it can power as many subs as you want.. 1..2..5..12

you need an amp, wiring kit, and a box. Just buy a cheap prefab single 8" box until you get your second sub then custom build a dual box
