Okay
So I never was a fan of hifonics and always though for them to be over rated, so I ended up snaging this hifonics (rated @ 1200 RMS @ 1 ohm) and a rockford fosgate p1000.1 that had a birthsheet of 1202 RMS @ 1 ohm.
So pretty much identical amps.....
For the test I had an alpine type R dual 2 ohm moofer, in a sealed enclosure, just for sheer test.
My electrical rests at 14.09 idle, 14.81 @ 1,000 RPM +
So I plugged in the hifonics to the type R, set my gain and watched the type R flex
It got failry loud, and after 25 minutes of some severe bass notes, the amplifier stayed fairly cool. (impressed)
So After that I decided I'd try the p1000.1 and see how it compared.
Man this was a harsh blow to the hifonics amp..... The fosgate brought a bigger gun and it delivered....
there was a large significance in between the amps, and between 4 friends and 3 kids who live in the block, they could all tell which amp was playing when.
So I decided to see about where the hifonics stands, so I pulled out my P600.1 bd
and hooked up the type r, each coil individually, to the P600.1 (birthsheet stated 753 RMS ) And the hifonics was a tad bit louder, so I pulled out the T300.2 I had sitting around (rated @ 854 RMS) and we had a match.
A hifonics rated @ 1200 RMS @ 1 ohm was only doing about 850 RMS on a close to 14.4 volt electrical. (lowest is ever droped with the hifoncs hooked up was 13.94 volt)
Now granted I payed 200 for the rockford and 150 for the hifonics, the price difference would have probably made it up for the lack of wattage but nontheless.
It is a great budget amp, don't get me wrong.
$150 bucks for about 900 RMS is still 16.67 cents per watt, where as the rockford ran me (16.64 cents a watt)
pretty close on the $ to watt ratio but I do feel it doesn't live up to the power hype.
I will get more hifonics in teh future and review their power performance to some of my other amps out there, but seeing as how I got my T3002 (same power as the hifonics) for only $100 bucks ($0.11 cents per watt) I think there are cheaper alternatives
Thanks for reading, hope this helps some one.
BTW, BUY A T3002, (average rating @ 2 ohm RMS is 838) and only made to do 300 RMS @ 2 ohm.
It's got 2 40A fuses and will blow your mind. ( you can get a referb on ebay for about 140 bucks) and find a used for about 110 shipped
