my budget pc, full of links, some one doubel check

I just got an LCD for christmas over my CRT and this monitor is MUCH nicer. Everything looks better on it. Its the Samsung SyncMaster 915n. Games kick *** on it and there were 0 dead pixels. I am glad I ditched my CRT.

If you end up playing games you will want something with a low response time, 12ms and under preferably. A higher contrast ratio and brightness are also things to look for but also get reviews from some reliable sources on it.

Unless you *really* need the extra desk space, an LCD isn't worth it. CRTs have better picture quality, are cheaper, and can actually render black right.
I agree with that to an extent. But each person has a different set of needs.

LCD has its benefits over just desk footprint. Lower power consumption, less heat, faster start-up time.

I recently replaced a nice Viewsonic Graphics Series 19" CRT with a Dell 2005FPW widescreen LCD. It is better in every way, except minute detail in extremely hi-res pictures.

I got a lesser version of the same LCD Moe Lester got. A Samsung Syncmaster 710n. It frankly doesn't do the job as well as my old Mag DJ717. Of course, that CRT was top of the line for monitors made before Windows 98. Different applications, different results.

You may not want to put the stuff on the carpet, incase any static is generated. You can treat an area with anti-static cling laundry spray or even rub a dryer sheet around the whole area, but even that isn't guaranteed to eliminate the possibility of static that can damage your parts.

anti static spray, garunteed to lose all static, sprayed 2 times //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif , so its all good, i grounded myself before i touched any part.......

... I should add that I have had drives from every manufacterer fail on me (except maybe Fujitsu and Seagate -- I can't remember a specific case where a Seagate failed).
The 2nd worse failure percentage was easily the IBM 60GXP series, followed by the 75GXP series, of which 90% of our corporate systems were running them at the time. We lost probably 20%-30% of those drives. But, that was a lot of years ago and Hitachi cleaned up IBM's mess after they bought their drive division off IBM.

The next worse failure percentage has been Western Digital. For the longest time, I feared them more than Maxtor, based on experience.
Except for seagate ive had all of those HD's fail on me as well. When 8mb cache drives were first really getting cheap with rebates i had 3 maxtors and 1 WD fail. The only brand ive never had die on me was seagate, in fact i know the only seagate i have owned (16gig 5400 rpm) is still running 24/7 for some one. Arent seagates the only oem drives that have more than a year waranty these days?

Seagate = 5 yearsWestern Digital Raptor = 5 years

Samsung = 3 years

Hitachi Deskstar = 3 years
Dont see to many of those really cheap, like the low end rebated drives //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
