Not that the technology was worse back then, just different. The mic setups were susceptible to variations in atmospheric conditions. This is because the microphone involves moving parts. The meter was supposed to read on a non weighted scale but was a little weighted to read 6-7 dB high for certain reasons that made it work better at that level.dude,...they're cvr's though... most people couldnt hit over 140 with 3 OK rated subs sealed IN AN EXPEDITION

The new TL uses a sensor system that has no moving parts and is not effected by changes in the atmosphere. It is accurate 100% of the time and is truly non weighted. It reads at a level 6-7 dB lower then the old setup because it actually takes readings over a 3hz range. If you play 47hz, it will read 46, 47, and 48 hz and average them together.
