My 1st ever meter today

was a round oarnge suction cup thingy that locked down and a mic that faced the windsheild was on passenger side
Audio control meter with the suction cup stand. Or old dB Drag mic setup.

Reads about 6 dB higher than the TermLab when its calibrated. If they just dusted it off it is most likely not calibrated so it can be way off. Basically that reading does not mean anything. Sorry to say.

BTW. The TermLab is 5 years old this month.

It was a TL it was calibrated, he specificly said it had ben sittin for awhile and he needed to cal it and set it up proper, the one who ran this prolly knows his stuff comeing from a guy who has personal invites to finals and stuff and more trophys in the stereo shop than there is room for so I kinda trust his judgment, besides I dont compete imjust stateing what I metered at and I,m happy with that..

I get personal invites to finals and have a few hundred trophies.

Truth is that the Term lab is not even a mic and does not and cannot be calibrated.

I have competed since 1995. the old setups are similar to what you are describing.

dB Drag used to use a mic called TermPro, thats most likely what he has.

It reads 6-7 dB high for most people.

You did good and I am sorry if I sound harsh. I just didnt want you to be dissappointed or think your system was messed up when you actually do get on a termLab and do 138-139.

Thanks but I could be wrong, I know that is the exact software he used on a computer along with a seperate box going to the computer with a suction cup thingy on my window inside all those modes was there the spl mode db mode tourney tree all that , I have a pic from my phone of my last run of 144.1 and the screen and the mic set up , tryin to figure out how to get on puter from my phone , can u accept pic mail via phone ? mabey u can shed light on what exactly he used? if so pm me

Yeah, on the old dB Drag mic setup, the software had different modes. The new software is different so I may be able to tell from a pic. The mic in the car is the real key.

Pics can be uploaded through photobucket. I am on my work computer so I am not sure if a phone pic will go through but you can try at elester@ceelite.com

I see.

Definitely the old dB Drag Term Pro Mic setup. last year for them was early 2003.

The mic is a studio condenser mic and may need calibration. Reads similar to the audiocontrol AC 180 or 190. which is roughly 6 db lower then the current Term Lab sensor system.

Good score though. anything over 140 with your setup is impressive.

Its an alright score. Its not ridiculously loud, but its not too bad either. In Expeditions it hard to get loud without a lot of equipment. I think I did around a 141 with a 12" MT and 3000 watts in a daily driver box, and it was plenty loud for regular listening.

your set-up, not tuned or tweaked for competing, pulling the equivalent to ~ high 30's isn't bad at all. nice job man. you should put some pictures of your equipment up.

Oh and BTW, if I were you, I would've just said STFU it says 145 on the computer screen to everyone. lol.
