Mustang GT, subs?

The top to bottom is very small in the trunk, and instead of going psychotic with a crazy *** box and a 15, I'm thinking two 10's in a nice ported box might just work out better.

Orion 1200d is the amp

Would two 10w7's with a nice little box be my bestbet? SVC 3ohm would put it at what, 1.5 ohm? Give them a solid 450 to each sub at least. SQL isin mind here.

Opinions welcomed.

I have a 2000 mustang and am going with 2 mag 12's. The reason for this is because they can get really loud in very small sealed enclosures. I want to show off the mags to sell them, otherwise I would just go with 1 12 because it would be more than loud enough for daily use.

I second the mags, I'm gonna be going with. I'm leaning towards the 12's though cause I still want access to my spare in case I need it. Waiting for AAA = teh sux //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

Do the mags...no more waiting. Pm me if you are interested in some.

I pm'd (and emailed lol) you about em before. Just a matter of getting the cash for em lol. And yes it's been certain for some time I'm going with the mags //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yes, two 10W7's would do well, but I'd highly recommend a shared volume 2.5 net cubic feet enclosure with a 40sq" vent x 20" long. They sound just a tad better as far as transient response goes in a 2.1 net cubic feet enclosure as well, they just don't get quite as loud on the same power as the bigger box. Of the two we used to do quite a few of, most customers were happier with the 2.5 cubic feet box. Brace the box from each side to it's opposite side.....all 6 sides. That is my recommendation if you are going to go with W7's and keeping it rear firing in the trunk. If you want to go more exotic and completely retarded with output and staying with W7's, go with the pair of 12W7's forward firing in what we call a semi-wall. Box is in the trunk but the subs are where the rear seat-backs were, firing forward with the vent. Totally sealed off cabin from the trunk and even on mild power they'll get pretty stupid. Those boxes were 4.5 net cubic feet for the mustang customers. The vent was 80sq" x 16" long. Hope that helps you a little.

haha thanks for the reminder. Keep in touch.

Chit, the trunk is 14.5" tall? But even if I take out/fold down the back seats, the opening is only like 12" tall I believe, right?

I'm looking at an 03 with 9500 miles on it, GT, it's an automatic but it's still a nice car, and a moosestang :)

Would I be able to slide in a box with the full 14"(par se) tall from inside the car, so I wouldnt have to cut or build the box inside the car itself?

What are some subs(you'd suggest, SQL moreso SPL though) for around 600w?

Mags are nice subs, but they'd need the full 1200w I have would they not?

I'm sure they would get plenty loud with "just" 600 each //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

And I'm pretty sure you can fit a box 14" high in there, theres a piece of metal at the top of the opening (from the inside) you have to bend for it, but it's pretty easy. I'm sure any mustang forums would be able to help you out with that.

When asked a question of "What sub would I suggest?", I always reply with the Digital Designs series that best fits the application. 1200w range would be the 2500a series. If you have an enclosure of 4 net cubic feet or more after vent, subs and bracing displacements, go with 12's of that series. The 2500a series only come with dual 4ohm voice coils, so your amplifier should either be made for 1 or 4ohm and producing its 1200wrms of output. If it's an oddball 2ohm mono amplifier, you can actually go down to the 1000a series to match a pair to your amplifier. They are rated at 300wrms and are single 4ohm coil subs only, but we ALWAYS put a good bit more power on them if not double their rms. Same enclosure as mentioned for your W7's and the DDs will be louder on the same power. On the question of sliding the box in from the front...no, not without cutting some steel. Otherwise you can drop it in from the trunk side, but you'll have to build the box in 2 pieces minimum. Pain in the *** in that instance.

Vere, I've owned two 2515's in the past. Great subs, but (for some odd reason) with 550 rms per sub they werent loud enough. It could have been due to the sealed enclosure witho nly 1.5^ft per sub, lol

If I were to go with a DD sub, it'd actually be AudioQue instead. I'd consider an HD12 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I probably should go search for a mustang forum, eh?

What's the recommended RMS on the SI Mags? And what should they get? lol

Also - RL-P be a good consideration at 600rms per sub?

Orion 1200d is the amplifier by the way, guys

Did you own the new 2500a series subs or the older 2500 series subs....either way, the 2500 series, either one would not be my choice for a sealed enclosure ever. The AudioQue HD (single) would be killin' on a 1200w amp, but two HDs would be underpowered.

i put a 18 inch sub in my mustangs trunk with no problem
What sub? Most of the new 18" beasts have too much mounting depth even when upfiring. An 18 in a Mustang would be a sweet sight to see though...you should post some pics.

It sounds like a single 12" IDmax would fit your needs well. Here's a link on how to get a box 12+" into your trunk: http://www.3.8mustang.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101189

P.S. Buy a 5-speed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
