One of my favourite CD's to just sit back and let myself sink into my chair and have my system show me what it's got is Burmester Art For the Ear CD II. Has a little of everything, but can really show off a system. Some of my favourite tracks are:
3. Hans Threessink - call me - very mellow, his voice is very impressive, quite low and smooth
5. Quincy Jones - The Places You Find Love - off of his Back on the Block CD - Has a great sound to it. Really has an amazing sound stage when the Choir kicks in. Anything from Quincy is amazing though.
7. Gerhard Oppelt - Lindenkirche Berlin - Nothing has a sound like a pipe organ. Has a nice sweet high and a very smooth, rich low end.
9. Ricky Lee Jones - Dat Dere - I just love the child in the background laughing at the beginning and at the end. Sounds like he is actually in the room.
There is also some Stevie Ray Vaughn and some Pink Floyd on there too.
As far as "top quality" recordings go, you can't go wrong with anything from Pink Floyd, Mark Knopfler, Prince, Madonna, and yes Micheal Jackson, recorded in the 80's/early 90's. They didn't spare any expense in the recordings of their music.
