Multiple speakers in kickpanels, mid/midbass

Gonna start on my kick panels. It is a fullsize reg cab pickup and I have lots of room to build these. I have two pairs of 6.5 eclipse mids I am going to install(4 speakers total). I have a couple of questions...

1. Would it be alright to basically build a sealed kick panel with both speakers in it? Or do I need to separate the 2 speakers?

2. Do I need to design the kick like a box with the freq tuning and stuff?

3. Should I consider adding 8's in the doors for some more midbass? My subs are 15" eclipse ti's, thinking a 4th order blowthru(gonna have mobile enclosures design that part).

4. What freq should I figure on the 6.5's playing if I do and if I don't add 8's? I also have some 1" tweets for the highs.

Thanks for any insight you can give me.

LOL.. i have a xcab chevy, and did deaden my doors, and put/cut in panel a 5.25 polk mm 100rms woofer, and at the existing speaker cut out i have a 60 rms polk db coax(temp looking for a good midrange),and a 50 rms infinity ref tweeter in the door arm, and added an old school 100rms infinity tweet in the window pillar, and sounds great/fine.but if you are good with cutting/modifying the settings,id go for it.i recommend deading the doors for sure, and if you do a sealed box/pod for the 2- 6.5,you will get more sq that stock locations/more lows, for sure..ive always thought that different chambers would sound better than sharing, and i think that they really do.but if you can/have the time and patience to build/work with wood to mold conture the speakers to direction of the seats/sitting ares, that would be ideal for sure..i will be doing at a later time,or even buy q-logic kicks or ?to try to get the speakers to the direction id like to,rather than stock location.i dont know if this helped you, but, this is what i have going on atm,and am running @2ohms stereo up front, and @4ohms rear fill..subs (4-1ooo,rms tens @30 hz different chambers/ea running @2oms mono)t be going in soon.been looking at the cdt m6 mids.

You probably won't get a ton of midbass in those kick panels, so yes, 8s in the doors would be fantastic for that.

As far as the panel itself, you should try sealed first to see if you like it. Don't worry about trying to separate the woofer and tweeter.

As for the 6.5 in a kick, I don't know how those Eclipses usually perform in doors, but I'm guessing you won't see much below 120 or so.

I don't think I am going to try and put my tweets in the kick, probably in the pillar, maybe the dash. Not sure on that yet.

If u do 8s in the doors, only do one mid in the Kicks......either way, I'd only do one....
I see phasing issues in your future with 2 in the kicks....
Well crap I have 4 of them already, had a suburban when I bought them.

I figure if I get a set of 8's then the subs don't have to play so high and the 6.5's don't have to play so low. Should be more efficient and cleaner, correct?

Any suggestions on 8's for this particular application? I think I should be able to build an enclosure with a little over 1 cube gross per door.

I also have like 7 4x4 sheets of dynamat and plan on putting in some second skin. I am going to have my friend spray the under side of the cab and fire wall with bed liner when I get it ready.

Thanks for the replies, really appreciate it.

U could always keep a set as back up or maybe rears?

It's possible they could work in the kicks though....just need a good design and some work....I think id give em separate chambers if possible....

As far as efficient and cleaner....theoretically, I suppose so. But phasing and cancellation in a car pretty much ruin that. I have seen a few builds with 8-6.5-tweeter and they seem to work pretty well. Just never seen one with 2 6.5s.

8 almost 9"in the door,6.5 in the kick..

i have ran a 6.5 in the kick as a midrange and a 6.5 in the door as a midbass. nothing wrong with using 6.5 for both, but separating them with an active crossover. the midrange will be much clearer when you put a 250Hz high pass on the woofer.

that is my vote for you: one 6.5 in kick as midrange. one 6.5 in door as midbass. active crossovers.

if you want to be slick about it, you can build up the doors to accept an 8", but have a replaceable baffle. so you build a baffle to act as a mounting surface, then make baffles that secure to it (t-nuts and machine screws, 10-24 would be fine). this way you can easily upgrade the midbass in the future, if you feel like you need it.

in a properly sealed door, a 6.5 can play down to 60Hz with ease.

I didnt even realize you were asking about putting two 6.5s in each kick. I really need to pay more attention.
Were you smoking @ the time?

Does it change your opinion on the matter, or just make you think I am a bigger moron then before?

No, and it does slightly change my opinion, though I didn't think you were a moron in the first place. You should definitely use one of the pairs of 6.5s as midbass in the doors like KHA suggested, if you don't want to spend the money on new 8s and everything you need to install them.

I did some messing with winisd and was messing with enclosure sizes from .25 to 2 cubes and it would never really changed the freq. At least I know I can't really screw up building the kicks. But it looks like 8's might be needed to get a good mid bass. With my hu it is the eclipse cd8053 and I have a high, low and sub rca outputs, so I am not real sure how I would do that.
