MTX 8500 or Type R

For a sealed 1.0 ft^3 box which would be better: a 10" MTX 8500 or a 10" Alpine Type-R? Haven't picked an amp yet but just assume it will be a PG Xenon 600.1. Also please refrain from saying get a type-x, because of the mounting depth and the way my box is shaped it will not fit. That said I am open to other suggestions. Maximum mounting depth is ~8" and maxium budget is $200.

Thanks,

Brian

The 8500 is just at $200 on ebay and yes I am prepared for the Type R horde. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/swordfight.gif.e3de6069f3ffe402fc3ab4a827365101.gif The L5/7 group can buzz off, its a round opening. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

FYI Type R boner is over jeebs, it was one of his TWO options... not a suggestion... if you have a problem with a cheap product that produces, go complain to your father about the cheap condum he used when you were concieved.. because it apparently didn't work correctly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

only playin my brotha

I would just spend the extra money and do a MTX 9500, Ive got a 9512-44 in my car in a ported box and it hits hard, Ive got around 1100watts going to it and it got louder than (4) 8" L7s inside of a truck cab....

the 9500s can handle a ton of power and can really get the car shaking...trust me the extra money for the 9500 is worth it becuase it will last for a long time...only downside is that I dont think that box will be big enough for either the 9500 or the 8500...I guess it might be fine for a 10" but I would still recommend building a bigger box for them

oh yea....I dont know how much the 8500 weighs but if your mounting a 9500 you better make sure you have atleast 1" thick MDF for the faceplate, I just doubled up 2 3/4" pieces with elmers wood glue and a 2 ton press to form them together

building a bigger box in my opinon would be way worth it in the end, u could have an amasing sub and a crappy box and it would sound horrible

Thunder 9500s are pretty sick, my 12" 9500 was the best sub I'll probably ever own in terms of SQL (the thing could get sick loud and anything around 34-38hz was just damaging not only to my car but to my ears). I've moved on though, I'm gearing toward the cone area factor which is why I'll be slammin 4 squares.

L7's>9500s end

What are you on? Thats one of the dumbest statements i've ever heard!!!
Def. grab up the mtx. the perform great in a small box. Are you looking at a usd one for only 2 hundred?

Having played with both subs very freqently, not only did the l7s get louder, they did it with less power. I seriously doubt uve done any testing with both in various boxes, and cars, so before u call me out, do some testing;)

not bashing on ur 9500, they are decent subs

Actually i have done a lot with the l7 and have a little experiance with the 9500. unfortunately the 9500 isnt as popular and is a lot harder to come by. I'd actually like to know where you work that you frequently play with a 9500? I can honestly only think of 1 certified dealer of the 9500's in my entire state. Now the FACT is that the 9500 is capable of A LOT higher total vd, and i dont think many people would argue the l7 as being higher in sq(install variables aside). so how do you believe the l7 to be superior?

So I have to be a certified dealer to have experience with the 9500s? A budy of mine has 2 9500 15s, and I have built several enclosures for both woofers. Tested it in both of our cars, the 9500s came up short with my experiments.. Im sure others will chime in and tell you the same thing. I have no doubt about the 9500s being capable, but the l7s did the best in my practices, and many others.. Simply a better woofer imo.. We will have to agree to disagree..

no i never said that you have to be a certified dealer to have experience with them. Its just that you said that you deal with them FREQUENTLY. In my eyes that would mean you work at a shop that deals with them. Thats why I asked where you work. Hmm maybe its just the fact that your enclosures for the 9500's are sub par? In which way do you feel the 9500's fell short sq, spl, or what?

The 9500 is out, it cost too much and I'm having the box custom made to fit a certain area in my trunk. I'm not trying to win a competition just trying to get something with more bump than the two 6x9 "woofers" in my rear deck.
