I have over 3300 songs on my ipod at a high bitrate. I want to put all those songs on my laptop but at say 128k.

What is a good program to downconvert MP3's with out having to make them WAV files. I will also need to put them on partition E: on my laptop.

Yes I am an iD10T when it comes to this stuff. I figured out how to put files on my laptop from the ipod and play them through winamp or crappy WMP but from there I am lost.

Hold my hand and talk to me like I am a child of 5 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks guys,

I know my Zune software can convert from whatever higher bitrate and lower them for my Zune to like 192 if I feel like it, but I listen to my music in my car so the higher the bitrate the better.

I absolutely HATE iTunes - I really doubt you have the option on there to change it to a lower bitrate.

First, you need to get the songs off your iPod - iTunes won't let you do that.

You'll need to find a program on the internet that lets you take the songs from your iPod and put them on your computer.

After that, you can change the bitrate. I suggest Easy CD-DA Extrator. It's not free, so you'll have to find it somewhere to download. I know you can downgrade bitrates in there. Why not just get an external harddrive? It would be much simpler.

If you need help, IM me on AIM. Info is below, in my sig.

Why the **** would you want 128kbps????

for that..

There is nothing that will let you do this well. This form of transcoding (lossy to lossy) will result in a poor quality file...worse than a regular 128kbps CBR mp3.

Is there a particular reason you want to convert them again?

I can easily get files from the iPod to my laptop and play them. You just have to change the "view" within explorer. I am good at figuring stupid windows out. So, I have no problem with that.

I want to lower the bit rate and play them on my laptop. Right now 3300 songs takes up 30+gb. I have a 160gb drive on my laptop formated into 3-42gb drives (1 for Microcrap Winblows, 1 for program files and 1 for files (such as music, drivers and such).

So, I can put the rather large MP3's on my laptop but I don't want to take up the space. Plus that is only half of my CD collection //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif So I still have over 40gigs to put on my iPod.

I think 128k would be fine for my laptop speakers don't you?

Come to think of it, I have winamp playing the songs directly off of my iPod with out putting them on my computer. I could do this and use no space on my laptop, but then I would always have to hook up the iPod.

Sounds like you need an external hard drive. I have a 80 GB hard drive on my laptop, and a 320 GB external drive. Anything less than 320 Kbps sucks.

Your new friend.

1 TB (1024 GB) external hard drive. Those used to be $400+. Due to technology increasing, prices have lowered to consumer needs and they're seriously worth every penny.

1024/$166 = 6.17

That's 6 GB per dollar. $1/1GB is the norm in good pricing. That's a steal.

Reformat your harddrive so you get a full 160 instead of 1/3 of 160. That's no fun.

If you want a smaller one, there are some below that are 750, 500, and 320 GB.

I partition my HD so I can save important files and install Winblows with out losing that data. I usually to a complete new install every 6 months or less and the partitions are a big plus.

I am trying to avoid anything external and that is why I would like to drop the bit rate. at this point though it is looking as though I will just use winamp to play directly from the ipod as I have it now. Saves room on my HD but I will always have to hook up the iPod //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Isn't there a way to import the tracks from the iPod and down convert them to a lower bit rate? I think I know how to do this with stupid WMP but I hate that effing program.

You said you know how to get them on your computer, use the program I stated in my first post to change the bitrate. You aren't going to be very happy with the quality of the songs, though. Just forewarning you.
