Mounting speakers to back of steel dash... Need spacer?

I'm using these Rockford Fosgate 5.25" speakers for the dashboard of my CJ8. The steel dash has 4 threaded studs welded to the back side of the dash. The speaker will fit snug up against the back side of the dash. I went with these speakers because of their low profile tweeter. But, on closer inspection, it looks like the wider section of the foam - on the main section of the cone will make contact with the dash. Will that impeded the speakers' movement? Should I use spacers?

I would say cut out the dash then use after market grilles but i don't know if i'd cut anything in that ol' school beauty....

I'd probably do custom kickpanels and call it a day... Or floor pods...

Thanks guys. I'll go with the spacers. I don't want cut the dash (it's a one-off custom) and don't want the speakers in center floor pod - invites theft. The Jeep isn't lockable. I'm trying to keep the stereo as invisible as possible.
