More dbs or more watts??

Hi everyone,

After fitting an amp, we now have to hook up a propper sub. We are thinking between a single 300w rms sub with 93.5dbs or twin 600w rms subs with only 90dbs.

So what is the obvious choice? The price difference is not massive, about 65 euro. The space is not really a matter. All the subs are 10".

Thanks for the comments!!

I think you may have that backwards... meaning a single 600 watt sub or two 300 watt subs.

In any event, speaker sensitivity is measured in free air and with respect to subs, it is a largely irrelevant number. Once the sub is put into an enclosure, that combination becomes a system and that system will have it's own sensitivity number, which is completely different than what the sub has alone. Ergo, the box you put the sub(s) in makes an enormous amount of difference. So much so that it can even cause the sensitivity to drop over the majority of the sub bass frequency band.

After rereading the post I noticed it was not really clear. All the subs are 300W, it's just that the twin subs combined are 600w. The are already in a box by the manufactor.

Thanks for the quick answer!
