im building my first box and one of the cuts has like a 2 level cut. the first half of the cut is measured fairly accurately but then half way through the cut its 1/16" lower. could i mix some mdf/glue together and fill it in after i assemble that wall? the mdf also burnt from the saw b/c its all blackish brown so sanding it off would be ok? also on the slot L shaped port, its 1/16” smaller (3” to 2-7/8”) after the bend would that be ok? considering i paid for these cuts they didn’t do a good job as every cut was off by exactly 1/16".

You can't expect HD/Lowes to get accurate cuts with their big saws as they're really designed to rough cut only. You need a table saw or circular saw/straight edge to get them right.

You "should" be able to make a 1/16" taper work by using glue/MDF dust and screws like 2" apart in that area to pull it down tight.

No reason to sand the burned part as you'll be glueing it anyways. Be sure to use plenty of caulk to seal all the inside seams once the box it built and you should be straight...

bondo, wood glue, almost anything can be used to fill gaps in wood, just make it as good as you can and chill //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/suave.gif.858fc102f7646e678ee8af7e1fbc41d1.gif

Woo, this makes me happy. I thought that I was the only one screwing up cuts.
Are you kidding me? I have 5000 shares in silicone stock, market blew up once I started getting into audio //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

back when I used a jigsaw for cuts I discovered that clamps were the best thing ever invented. I bought a set fo 6 off ebay for like 60 bucks or something all 36" they have worked good so far. fortunately a table saw has been my new best friend.

Oh man, I remember the days of building a whole box using a jigsaw, man that was time consuming,LOL.

i got the MDF/cuts from a HD/lowes like local store. they had a huge machine like 7'x15' or so on the wall vertical for precision cuts since thats what i paid for (actually offers precision cuts for a price). the guy using it on the other hand didn’t really know how to cut wood it seems. thanks for the info guys, now i can start building my box.

i used to work at lowes. i always took my time to get wood cuts right. i hated basically cutting peoples project up for them (like the people that wanted cabinents and shit) but i still did my absolute best to get dead on the cuts.

hell i even took the time to learn exactly how much each side of the panel saw was off by lol. i was rarely off by 1/16".

it really depends on who you run in to...i will guarantee you wont get perfect cuts from most people though.

if you feel like paying a little bit extra i suggest Dixieline. went there for my friends last box and they have a table saw there for an extra fee. however they guarantee EXACT cuts on the table saw ( i believe its a $4 setup fee and then each cut is a little bit extra than the standard panel saw cuts). we decided to use the panel saw anyways, and it was accurate enough for minimal cost.
