I have just recently began putting together stereo system for my GMC Sierra.. Currently I have a pioneer head unit with crossover capability, digital designs VO6.5 in the front doors and a pair of massive audio CT2 tweeters..I intend on getting an Amp for the mids and highs and running them active. Until then Im just running them off the HU and have the midrange high passed and the tweeters are using the passive crossover they came with. I can't bandpass the midrange until I get the Amp and run the HU in Network mode. My question is tho, am I risking damaging the 6.5s without low passing them and letting them play into the higher frequencies. Tbh it currently sounds really good at the moment and if I could save the amp for the mids and highs and get a sub and amp in the meantime I would rather do that.

I doubt you will damage the mid-range speaker by letting them play up to the tweeters. They will eventually roll off their output on their own, probably around 12,000 - 14,000hz. I bet it does sound good, you have a larger cone playing higher frequencies which is probably amplifying those higher frequencies that the smaller tweeter usually plays alone... now they both will play most of them together until the mid speaker rolls off.

You are fine in doing so, it wont damage it but some minor SQ issues would be that you are causing beaming issues which negatively affects the soundstage along with not being able to put as much power as you would normally in an active setup with the mid bandpassed but as long as you are smart about it, it shouldn't matter right now. When you do run a proper network mode the overall SQ will be a lot better because when you have a mid and tweeter play the same frequencies, you either get a sharp peak in the frequency response and would resort to EQing it down but really not solving the issue, it may sound find to you until you actually fix it and realized what a significant difference having a proper crossover blend between mid and tweeter can actually make in your overall frequency response.
