Metra ASWC Install Help

So tomorrow I'm installing a new HU in my car (2011 Optima) and I need to hook up a Metra steering wheel adapter so I can still use the steering wheel controls. I'm also using a Metra wiring harness to hook up the HU (obviously). I think I have everything wired up correctly, but I'm not sure about the "remote gnd" wire. In the ASWC manual it says to ground this wire to the chassis. My question is, would I just take the "remote gnd" wire on the HU wiring harness and splice it into the corresponsing wire in the car's factory wiring? Or do I need to actually physically ground it somewhere near the new HU? The wire is pretty short so idk exactly where I'd ground it. Sorry if the way this is worded is kinda confusing, this is the first install I've done myself. Thanks in advance for the help.

If it says to ground it to chassis ground, then you can ground it to the ground on the wiring harness. Not a remote wire. Not sure what you mean by "remote ground".

A remote wire is a 12v + wire.

Do you have the 8 speaker audio system?

I wondered the same thing too when I first looked at Kia's wiring diagram - they call it "remote gnd". I assume it's some kind of ground for the steering wheel remote. So it would be ok to just siamese it into the ground wire on the HU wiring harness? And no, I don't have the Infinity system, just the base 6 speaker.

1) Connect the Black wire of the ASWC to ground. You may use the same grounding point as the aftermarket radio.

2) Connect the Red wire of the ASWC to a 12 volt accessory wire, one that turns on and off with the ignition key.

3) Connect the Green/Orange wire of the ASWC to pin 4 of the vehicle. Below is a picture of what the connector in the vehicle looks like:

4) Connect pin 17 of the vehicles harness to ground.

5) All other wires on the ASWC please tape up, they will not be used.

Yes you can "siamese" the grounds.

You will have to connect the black wire of the aswc, and tap into pin 17 of the vehicles harness. Both of those wires will go to a ground.
