Measuring Subwoofers

Before I send my new IDMAX12 back to SoundDomain and ***** at them for sending me a 10 instead of a 12, how exactly do you measure a sub ? Is it straight across from edge of surround to edge of surround or is it circumfrance ?

Do you realize how small a "10 inch" speaker would be if we measured it by circumference //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Also, not every 10" speaker is EXACTLY 10".....so don't be surprised if it is like 1/8" off or something.

Hm... I measure my "12"" and I get 11", is that normal ? I ask because I just looked at the spec sheet with the sub and it says IDMAX10 instead of IDMAX12. I'm hoping it's just the wrong sheet though.

11" sounds like the mounting hole diameter for the 12"

Looks like the IDMAX12 should be 12.5" as measured in the picture in the link

****, I looked at the idmax10 spec sheet, and it's 11 inches across. ARGH, I waited 4 weeks for this thing to come off backorder, and then they send me the wrong sub! **** you, sounddomain

Why not find the spec sheet of your sub? that will tell you and you dont have to measure anything...

Sucks that SD sent you the wrong sub man. I hope they pick up the all shipping charges to get it straightened out.

Very expensive machines that measure driver parameters

Nothing that would be truly accurate. There is a reason why those machines are big and expensive.

the spec sheet i have says 3mm, but i was talking to someone on here yesterday, and they said that in the size of box, and the power i have it would be at 6mm, @ anything over like 35Hz. and i just wanted to measure it and see.

I'm surprised... I just got off the phone with SD. They are sending me a label to ship the sub back free, and once they get it, they'll send me the new one express. Still sucks, but not *too* bad of a situation. Still gotta make the box for it anyway
