making cardboard templates for a wall

for the front and rear "beauty panels"

im trying to use carboard to make a template, then trace it on wood, and cut it out. need it to follow all the curves of the headliner, and side panels in the front and rear.

im just wondering if there is any tips for people that have done this. its hard as hell to make the cardbored templates...everytime i cut, then i test fit, and the gaps always come out too small or w/e, so i cut more, then theres a gap between the panel and the headliner.

any pointers?

ps- making a fiberglass mold of the side panels isnt an option.

don't try to make it with a single piece of cardboard. use smaller pieces and tape them together. then if you mess up you just replace a small piece and start over.

try cutting many smaller templates, then when they all fit in their own place, tape them all together, and make a one-piece template. I used this before for cutting a piece of carpet for the rear panel in a 77 MGB. Works great.

im trying that, i guess im just not patient enough. i am using a small piece though, once i can get it to fit up perfect, i can tape the bigger piece (the center piece)

Put some masking tape down on the ceiling so nothing gets cut or scuffed, etc. I used to cut cardboard down into strips, like 4 inches by 1 inch. I used to use some 5 second CA glue, and then line up the next piece, trace the corner out on the last piece, then glue it down. Keep this up all the way around. Trace out on a BIG piece of cardboard and test fit.

thats what im thinking, ill have to cut out like short pieces about 4" like you said, put all the 4" pieces together to fit, then trace it all on one big piece, then on wood.

im gonna try that, ill update my worklog when i do so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

hopefully itll work out.
