Magnums or avalanches

Nope, it was re-coned and sold. That little puppy was inexpensive though without it being re-coned (customer did it for asthetics, but after ripping it apart I found out that you guys BEAT on that sucker! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif).
A lot of people came over to Loyd's car this past weekend when he would fire up his Mag's, and a few of them sat in his car.
Hey you wanted me to put the Orion monster on it, but I played it safe and ran the cadence for subject tests //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

WinISD will help give you an *idea* of what each will sound like...I never mentioned it specified SPL levels //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif. btw...your graphs show *transfer function magnitude* (frequency response) NOT maximum SPL. They have a section for Maximum SPL in the program.

They are each extremely well designed high excursion SQ drivers with about the same xmax and power handling...I cant see either getting way louder than the other.

The Avalanches are a LOT cheaper compared to the magnums...and I'd bet on it that if installed correctly you wouldnt prefer one setup over the other (if your bias didnt come into play and you knew which setup had which drivers)

can your electrical system handle 3000 watts? Most have terrible difficult with 2000 watts...

Are you sure you want to upgrade your electrical system, ask 50% more power from your amp, and pay for another sub only for 3dB?

If I were you, I'd buy one Avalanche 15 and spend the rest of my money going active! You'd impress a lot of people and you'd actually have a *quality* system that was different from all the other boom boxes on the block.

GET THE AVALANCHES AND STOP FOLLOWING THE BANDWAGON...90% of the people on this forum havent even heard a Mag and are recommending them for the simple reason many people think the W7 is the best...HYPE!

...unless you want to waste your money

The mags were easy to recommend when a 15 was $350 shipped brand new from Si...but with their new MSRP and dealers NO WAY!

no it doesn't.. look at the graphs ISD shows, and look at the actual response graphs for the two drivers..

not even close..

ISD doesn't account for high end rolloff, due to the vehicle, inductance, etc..

it doesn't account for low end rolloff, due to the vehicle, mechanical limits of the driver, etc..

and it **** sure doesn't show how the RE 8 is muddy from 40-55hz... and it doesn't show the noises the ED 8a made above 70hz...

They are each extremely well designed high excursion SQ drivers with about the same xmax and power handling...I cant see either getting way louder than the other.
once again... look at the response graphs I posted... the ED 8a has nearly twice the xmax of the RE 8, and either double or triple the power handling of it... and yet the RE 8 was louder.... period..

not to metion the ED 8 had a price tag over double that of the RE 8.. at the time this test was conducted..

there's several other 8" drivers I can bring into this conversation as well... CMP 8... true bass 8....

it's been proven over and over that ISD is worthless for modeling drivers.. a complete waste of time and resources..

PS.

There's no "hype" with the mag like the w7 - Say what you want but the woofer preforms as told, no bullshit.

btw...How many mags have you owned? Do you even have a mag to honestly say it isnt what its cracked up to be?

I didn't think so.

Crawl back to your inaccurate winisd corner and hump your inefficient, over priced, poorly designed eduh woofers. I know what they do in the real world.

You just moved up a notch in my book;)

And winisd works great for helping to design enclosures, but there is NO way it can tell you how a driver will perform in the real world.

lol...well in my post I wasnt defending elemental designs. I was referring to the Avalanche and Magnum.

I have NEVER said the Magnum is not an amazing woofer...NEVER. Find my post where I mention that the Avalanche is a better woofer than the Magnum.

The magnum is the huge forum boner right now...just like RE was a while back. My point wasnt that the Magnum wasnt a solid woofer, but that everyone is recommending them even though 90% of them havent even heard one. You guys are saying its this awesome woofer...and they just repeat what you say with no valid personal experience. You guys are *hyping* it up.

Back on page two I counted atleast 10 people I knew for a fact owned or still owns a mag. So a lot of them do actually know what they are talking about.

But I am sure there are some that said mag that have never owned one as well. But a lot have.

WinISD cannot factor in room gain...when it doesnt know what vehicle its going in or what environment. It is purely what the subwoofer will do in an outdoor environment with no barriers

Room gain in a sedan usually starts around 80/60hz and adds 12dB/octave (I have that accounted for in the graphs)

Yes...most people who are recommending them havent heard BOTH woofers in correct enclosures.

You guys are forgetting my point...I was never bagging on the Mags. They are excellent woofers! The Avalanches, I personally believe are a much better woofer for his budget. You can afford 2 Ava 15s or 2 RL-Ps for the price of 1 Mag...(each of those setups will have less distortion and be louder).

You could spend the money you saved by getting the Avas instead of buying the Mags on an awesome front stage

Just shut it and let us over pay for our "hyped up" moofer. Jesus...

Never heard a Mag, but I heard an Avalanche 12 in a small sealed box. SQ was excellent. Output was pretty good. I'd assume both the Mag and the Avalanche have great SQ, but the Mag probably has an edge in the SPL dept.

For the price (if the Avas were still available,) I would get two Avas.

I've found vehicle with corner frequencies beginning anywhere from 55hz, to 90hz..

I've also found many vehicles with response peaks and dips, due to boosting, and cancellation... granted.. not big flucuations.. but certainly there..

that 1/3 octave smoothing bullshit ISD graphs is worthless...

I dont see the avalanches on the site anymore.. but if someone has a pair they're willing to let go for a couple weeks.. I can certainly add them to the ever growing list of 12's for the test session..

almost appears like the makings of a great 12 challenge..

Just tell me one thing? Where are you going to find two BNIB Avalanches with warranty?

There is a reaosn so many people recommend the Mags, and there is a reason it may be what you call, "the new forum boner."
