i want to add a sub to my car

i'm thinking a 10 jl in a sealed box

my question is whats the big difference between 1 sub or two?

Is it just to be louder?

i dont want that loud of bass so would one 10 be sufficient? thanks for any help

2 subs will just be 2 times as loud, given they have 2 times the power.

One 10" will easily overpower a factory system's highs and mids. Give it anywhere from 100-200 watts RMS and your 10 will add plenty of bass to your system.

I reccomend using a class D amp. An MTX 4250D ($200), ran at 4 ohms, will give it plenty of power and if you decide to get another 10, it'll power it at 2 ohms (2 - 4 ohm 10s parallel wired) too.

i have a 1998 ford mustang and the trunk is pertty **** small but i have 2 12's in 2 type 1 q logic box's but you trunk my be smaller. if it is then i'd say get one 12".

dependds on what kind of car if its somthing big like a concorde then get two but if its a hatch back or something small then stay with the one... know what i'm say'nits abouth the size..

its a honda civic sedan, i think i have pretty sufficient room. Also how is me having a trunk instead of a hatchback ganna effect the sub, is it ganna be harder to hear? is there a certain box i should use for a trunk opposed to a hatch

you can hear the diff int he two (trunk vs hatch) but thats basically because if you have them in a trunk they gotta go through a back seat, which muffles them, but it doesn't matter cuz its just bass ;P but yeah, i have mine in my trunk and they sound fine, it shouldn't really matter unless your some kind of freak......

In my opinion you should head down to your local store and sample the goods, the lads there should be able to demo everything you want to know (1 or 2 subs, 10's or 12's, and different power combo's). That way you get first hand experience and an idea at what direction you want to go in within your budget. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

If this helps any, I read on a web site that two subs is only 3 db louder than one. If you are on a buget get one sub in a bandpass enclosure. I would recomend trying to get a high powered 12 or 15.

i've got a single 12 in a sealed box in the trunk powered by 100wrms(if the amp is lucky)and it does ok. not a ground pounder but it hits. next week new amp, new result.

anyway, it's all about your ears. u want real loud, 2 subs w/high power. just want to hit a little and pound sometimes i think one is good enough.

ps, i know a guy with a single ten (focal utopia) in a vented enclosure w/ 75 wrms(not sure of amp brand) and an eclipse h/u and he hit 145 db. he owns the store so i'm sure the amp is high quality. oh yea, it's in a hatchback.

I had one 10 in my Trans Am for bout 2 yrs. It was The Audiobahn ALUM10 and I pushed it with a Soundstream Lil Wonder amp. My car had the Monsoon system and blended fairly well with the car's stereo, had to turn the gain on the amp way down, but i was satisfied. But now i've upgraded to an all new system, all audiobahn mids, highs, subs, soundstream amps, blauplunkt casablanca cd player. one 10 is all anyone needs, I prefer them in bout a .7 to a .9 cubic foot sealed box. a 2-300 watt amp will do just fine, just get a good quality amp, lots of choices, lots of good stuff.

decibels are logarithmic, so basically like 100 dB is twice as loud as 97 dB, which is twice as loud as 94 dB etc.

I'm using 2 pioneer 10"s in a shared airspace ported enclosure running off an alpine amp. In a sedan i seriously suggest getting 2 10s, 2 12s or a 15 because the seats do make a very big difference to the volume and quality of the bass, i normally just have my seats down.

If you're worried about subs in the trunk just make little holes where it's a flat surface below the rear windshield. You can make em like a 4inch diameter or you can even have really small holes spread out. I think I read this somewhere on mtx's website.
