Magnums or avalanches

Hot ****.. maybe I should get a ****ing mag.. I have an ava 15" though, and it sounds **** good and gets loud as hell.
I have always liked the Avalanche subs as well. They are very nice drivers, and better than 90% of the subs I have used. But the mags I feel are an overall better SQL sub, and they would make a nice upgrade..

I meant people I consider to be knowledgeable on car audio.
People that have been involved in car audio longer than you have been alive:up2somet:
Ya well Ryan Autry I think would be considered a knowledgeable person to give a review...dont you think?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Ok...that really was an PWNT...this is fun...

Well I am just saying it is going to be **** hard for him to do a comparison between a mag and a q series sub, with some RE 8's in his car.

And I know he carries TONS of different products, and has dealt with a lot of subs. But I want a **** comparison between the q series and the mag. And I need someone who has had expieriance with both to do that.

/ discussion

I have people who need help to get back to.

I know, but first of all I forgot about the comparison BETWEEN the two woofers, I was thinking about an overall review about the products. But don't worry, I'll have to ask Ryan or Ray what experience they have with the mags, if they don't Steve Meade is right down the block, see if he has any.

Sounds good.

I am sending out a mag for testing this week. The results should be interesting.

I highly doubt anybody here has heard both subwoofers in their proper enclosures, both in 4ft tuned to 28hz model roughly the same with the Ava having roughly 1dB edge in the peak frequency. The Avalanche has 27mm of excursion...and the Magnum im guessing has around 25?. They would both sound the same to the ear having roughly the same room response...there might be a slight 1-2dB difference, but without using a meter there would be no way of knowing. At those high of SPL levels and that low of frequencies, your ears arent very sensitive.

They each have super low distortion, the same amount of group delay, and the Avalanche has a lower inductance...so in no way do I believe that the Magnum is more accurate.

If you wanted sound quality and output, and can afford 3 high excursion woofers Id definetley go infinite baffle or sealed. Each ported enclosure has 20ms of group delay at 30hz and down and a huge 12/14dB peak around 30hz with room gain...(not sound quality by any means)

btw running 3 high excursion subwoofers is not sound quality and will not properly integrate with any sort of frontstage...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

You will only gain 3dB by adding another woofer and giving it the same amount of power as the other woofers (10dB is a doubling of volume)...so I hardly find the extra change (especially considering how much Mags are nowadays) worth it. It would be much more impressive and worthwhile to spend your cash on a good set of midranges (most music lies within 300-3000hz where your ears are MOST sensitive to distortion) and a nice set of midbasses (one of the trickiest areas to get right)

If you have enough dough...Id definetley suggest investing in a carputer with a DRC

with all that being said...id get whichever you can get cheaper...

(I'd get the Avas...and stop following the bandwagon)
