Here is the dirt.
The mags and the ava's have roughtly the same power handleing. Yet, in both daily applications and in SPL applications, the mags are louder. Nobody is claiming that either is inaccurate or is lacking in SQ.
As far as the ava's inductance being "low." I will tell you my Ava 18 wont dance above 60Hz if it ment it's death.
The difference? Avalanches are hard to come by now and mags will be more expensive. The Avalanche is also designed strictly for home use (it just happened to do well in car), this means they like larger enclosures...i found that out when i had to give up over 9 net cubic feet of space to run my avalanche 18 ported.

both of these subwoofers are absolutely amazing and are better than 95% of the drivers on the market, and if the Mag has an edge in SPL its maybe 5-10% at best (certainly not worth twice as much $$$). There are far larger dividends to be made in other areas of your system, such as install, equalization, and integration with your front stage.

Also for a little bit more than the cost for 1 Mag 12...2 RLP 15s will be more linear in their strokes, be louder, and have less distortion.
and this post right here was taken completely out of context...I NEVER said the Magnum wasnt an amazing woofer...and I never said elemental designs woofers were nice. I never defended or even commented on his post concerning the 8s.
I also said that WinISD will model the subwoofer outside a vehicle environment...each car response is completely independent and it would be impossible for that program to know that response unless you measured it and applied it to the response...sheeesh

i would have to agree with thadman. everybody gets on a certain products dick for a while then shit on it later when something a lil better comes out. this happened with the hifonics amps dei/viper/orion, xxx, brahma, rlp and both gens of mags. the arsenal series is basically the "new and improved" ava's to technically it can be brought BNIB w warrenty just not under the ava name which means nothing since "avalanche" aint on the product anywhere but the shipping label anyway. i've heard the ava but not magnum (the couple of times i met up with rangerman he had his magnum but his setup wasn't working and it was claw basket) but until i see someone give each its rated power and the same amount more in the same exact vehicle each in a enclosure the same size for the drivers (meaning what would be considered "small" medium" "large" for the driver) and shows a 5 db or more advantage on the TL or more in the mags favor i wave my BS flag that the mag will destroy a ava unless it is a quantum leap from the claw basket. i'm not saying its can't be better since i haven't heard the magnum but i would doubt if it "owns" the ava.

like I said before... somebody land a pair of A/A drivers in my hands for a couple weeks.. and they can go through the wringer with the rest of the drivers...
no b/s subjective and ouptut testing..
personally for me.. the mag is the loudest / best sounding low frequency woofer I've tested... we'll see how they hold up when the new units arrive..
