Magnet Size and What It Concerns...

Right now I have a 12" Alpine Type-E First Gen. subwoofer, obviously this thing is in serious need of REPLACEMENT lol, Ive looked at specs and i see Magnet Weight alot, my type-e has a 64oz. magnet right, well i figured that it was small since its a very low-end subwoofer, As ive been lookin at other subs I want to buy, im seeing some with only 38oz or 42oz...why do these subs even though they can handle over 1000W max have smaller magnets than my pathetic type-e?

bottom line, how does power (wattage) affect subwoofer performance?

and what does magnet weight really mean? what does it do? (i understand it is the physical WEIGHT of the magnet...but obviously the more it weighs doesnt mean the more power the sub can do)

secondly, Im looking at buying 2 Sony XSL124P5B subs, can someone tell me the magnet weight specs for this sub? thanks

Weight of the magnet is fully, absolutely, and 100% meaningless.

The voice coil and how well it can dissipate heat is what determines the thermal power handling.

You can build a very high powered sub with a light magnet, especially if it were to use Neo.

well im a bit on a budget and im looking at 3 different types of subs

Sony XSL124P5B - $109 CDN

JBL GTO1202D - $199 CDN

Pioneer TS-W307D4 - $139 CDN

I would like 2 buy 2 right off the bat, for the JBLs that would be expensive

unfortunately i cant buy anything online so im limited to the stores around me

Futureshop, Bestbuy...thats pretty much it

there is Factory Auto Sound but they are EXTREMELY high end

What the fuck?
i have no clue what the first line was all about but the second line im assuming he was talking about the Sony Subs

I saw this Sony XMD9001GTR Mono 1300W Max 900W RMS Amp for only $200 cdn...thats alot of power! right now i have a 400W 2-Ch ULTRA LINEAR Amp (it SUCKS)

as for the amp im going with this Sony for sure...you may call it shit but it will beat the ultra linear one i own now so thats all that matters

all i really need for suggestions is 2 really good 12" subs for a good deal
