mag vs MJ18...discuss

i think im gonna do it....free shipping FTW so i just need $232 for the sub....

what size should i look at for the box? realistically biggest i can do is 42" Wide x 20 something tall and 20 something deep....so up to like 11 cubes...i dont think it needs to be anywhere near that though...
If you can give them 3.1 each, that will be a great start. You could always go a little larger and slug the box, or start with 3.1 and stuff the box to find your optimum sound.

well two single 4's will wire to 2 ohms correct...that would give it 400 watts each...if the sundown put out exactly rated power....but im hoping its a little underrated.

Can I make a suggestion?

If you come across an SI that you can afford, buy it. Try it. If you like it, keep it. if you don't, you can sell it and look at something else.......... like the MJ-18 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Best,

I think they would do fine, plus it will be easier on your electrical, and you can just puttin them in a slightly larger sealed enclosure if you want more low-end output

This is very good to read, makes me feel much better about this driver. I supported it early on but it seemed like people were shutting it down. MJ ftw!
The thing that hurts the MJ is the price. Hear me out.

People have shy'ed away from it because the price was low and they felt it was junk. It is not a super high Xmax sub either. It is just a solid application of what Mark was aiming for and priced low.

well heres a problem...box needs to be around 40" wide to accommodate 2 18's....hight has to be at least 20....then i made the depth as shallow as 12" and im still getting 9.3 cubes...

Thats true, I guess I could see why people would hate on it so much just simply because it doesnt cost so much. People tend to think you have to spend a lot or its not good. Of coarse its not the end all sub, but it seems very solid for the price //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Why dont you just put them in around 7 cube and call it a day?

The depth is 8" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

even doing 41x20x20 gives me 11 something cubes....so id love to cut down on the depth of the box...whats the mounting depth on them?
Ok, hold on. Is that the working space that you have? If so, go ported - 9 cubes tuned to 30Hz. You will then have the best of both worlds.
