Mag V4 Discontinued.. :(

Cost of production and profits have absolutely nothing to do with it. We have sold more Mag v4's in 7 months than we sold Mag v3's in over two years. The cost of production wasn't that high either, so that has nothing to do with it.
I know it sounds odd, but I made the decision to stop production on the driver due to reasons other than profits or sales. We are still coming out with the BM's, but the Mag v4's will no longer be produced. We have enough in storage for legitimate warranty claims plus a few extra's, but that's it.

And taking orders before the v4's got here was a mistake. We know that now and will never do that again. Shit happens with shipping companies and the delays were beyond our control. If the delays on the BM's deters you, then it deters you. I'm not satisfied with just coming out with a product because it's the "fast" way to do it even though it may not meet my expectations.
Don't get me wrong, I completely understand delays and everything like that. I think it was a mistake announcing dates and then falling short on them, but as with everything you need to mess up to learn from the mistake.

I do understand how the shipping goes and everything like that. My father is the VP of a VERY LARGE company that does import and manufacturing of jewelery and general merchandise in the US and over seas. I've worked closely with him from time to time so I know the delays from over seas and communication can be a bit harsh and spotty.

I still am interested in the BM, but as it was never really something I needed to buy I don't care about how long it takes to come out. Just seems like a very nice shallow driver to use in a truck stealth install //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

Don't get me wrong, I am not telling you how to run your company, nor do I plan to. SI is your creation and I do still support the SI product line.

I never meant to bash you Nick, sorry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif.

Na, in all honesty I've been joking a bit but from the products I've heard from SI and just the small number of dealings I've had with Mr. SI himself, I'm sure the reason is a good one and in our best interest.

Just seems like marketing ******* to not at least make something up. Hell "we found our supplier was purchasing material from a hostile environment in the congo region that may support terrorism", would have been an acceptable answer.

To be honest, in the past few years the industry has gone down an alley I never thought it would have. People say they want the ultimate in sound quality, low-distortion, moderate (I say moderate on this board but would have said "high'ish" on any other board //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif) power handling drivers, but when they listen to them and they can't 'hear' the sub behind them they don't like it. The ability of a subwoofer to blend with your front stage effortlessly is what a true SQ subwoofer should be able to do without breaking a sweat.
We have sold a LOT of drivers from the DIYMA forum alone and a good bit from this forum and other forums. However, when you build a driver that handles more than 500 watts, it better be able to take 1400+, and not sound like total crap and that is it. And that's all I'm going to say (even saying that was/is a stretch and I'll probably get executed for it later). Again, the reason for me pulling the plug was not sales or profit related. I know it sounds odd, but I value other things over just making products that sell.
Glad you posted it, it was hard for me not to, lol. Anyway, I do have to agree. People seem to be much more interested in being loud and dumping obscene amounts of power into a driver than they are with how it sounds. For me the Mag can get TOO loud, however when set correctly it blends with my front stage to a point that it seems the sub is no longer there. This has been lost on too many people now who only want to hit 140+ dBs and have something that sounds slightly better than a wet fart. It really is sad, but I guess that's where the market has gone.

Read post 47...i was reading your mind as I was typing :p

I can understand totally. Not everyone is a PPI pro or Mag V4 kinda person. I'll still get BM's when the come out because I know that they will do what I want (accurate reproduction of the substage) and I'd still be willing to put my money down long before they ever cross the pond.

F-the quality the sound everything...purchases come down to trusting the person you are handing the money to and knowing that you are getting the best that person can get you.

...there was bird flu in the paint though. Get yourself checked now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

No worries. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Like I said, we won't do that again. Hind sight is 20/20. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif The first time we went overseas (the original BM's) there were ZERO delays. The second time we went overseas there were so many delays I couldn't stand it. Lesson learned.

After you posted it wasn't about money or sales, this was exactly my first thought. It really sucks to hear this, because IMO now there isn't a single company that makes a car audio driver that suites my tastes and will fit in my install.

Tis a shame sir, but I wish you the best of luck with your BM.

it's probably because the new BM will put the vag v4 to shame, which wouldn't be difficult to do. It wouldn't make sense to have the baby mag better than the mag. Just like how it doesn't make sense that he's discontinuing the v4 because "people don't like a sub that can't hear behind them." They really must not like not hearing the sub if they're buying them up like crazy compared to the overhyped v3s.

No, it's idiots like you who think they know what SQ is but bitch when they hear something that truly is an SQ driver.

Careful man, if Mr. Lemons coughs your liable to fall. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It's not just with Nick's drivers. It's idiots like papermaker and kendog who buy an AE sub looking for SPL, beat the shit out of it then complain about it. They do not realize what SQ is, they want loud and something that is more than a 1 note sub, the sad thing is they hear some of these subs and think they sound amazing because they can hear the sub, when that is not the goal, the goal is to have it blend seamlessly with the rest of the system. Anyway, I know what I like and I will keep looking for those companies that make it.
