Mad about recent car audio installation. Do you think I have the right to mad?

I'm sorry if this doesn't belong in this section.

I just had my system installed at a local shop that will remain nameless for the time being. I just want to know if the things I notice that they did is something I can really be mad/irritated about.

Well yesterday I just spent part of the day fixing part of the mess the audio shop created in my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with infinity system. I had them install speakers, dvd navi, satellite radio and a 5 channel amp w/ a new sub. First they put the satellite radio antenna & gps antenna above the radio where the factory compass was. The panel wouldn't close properly and the gps & satellite radio antenna interfered with the factory compass. Had to pop the pannels of the dash to run the gps antenna up to my roll bar and hide it up there. Ended up taking out the satellite radio antenna and relocating the box for the satellite radio behind the glove box and using the stock satellite radio antenna, from the factory head unit. They lost my bluetooth mic and I had to go out and get another one and install that myself. They didn't have any european radio antenna adapters so had to source one and install it (no big deal). They had all the channels screwed up on the Jeep so not one channel was for the correct speaker. I corrected that after a little time with the amp. Found that they didn't listen about how I wanted my sub box mounted, so they drilled the frame like I told them not to do. Then found that they didn't pop the panels to hide the wires for the previous car alarm/remote start they installed and the hard wire radar detector they installed that day, they just pushed them in so they would fall out. I told them where I wanted a button installed for my radar detector and since it wasn't long enough they decided to not lengthen the wires and instead drilled a new hole in a different location. They didn't use my knukonceptz kolossus flex amp wiring kit either because it was 4 gauge and the amp would of only accepted a 8 gauge wire. This could have been solved with a power distribution block as I was planning on upgrading things down the road. They didn't bother calling me ahead of time with any changes which irritates me. I think they put part of my dash together wrong, well I know it's put together wrong I'm just not sure that they did it. Well it was never taken apart before and I doubt it came from factory like that and another panel is missing a pop button to hold it together. Lastly found that they ran wires for the speakers which was good. The bad was that they only partially ran them and decided to tap into the factory infinity wiring harness for the speakers to go the rest of the way. I say it's a half *** job. I guess if you want anything done right you need to do it your self.

I should of done it myself as I know how too, but since I have a baby that is almost 6 months old it is hard for me to find the time to do my own work. But I guess I have to do my own work now anyways as I don't think I want to let them back at it.

So irritated.

Most shops nowadays hire any cheap installer they can get unfortunately I trust no one when my name is behind it and do all the installs myself. Sorry it happened to you bit their are still good shops out there and they should have bought the bluetooth mic not you they lost it.

I would be pissed. If you want stuff done right you either do it yourself or use someone you know will do it correctly, I'd never just take it to a shop & hope they followed my instructions.

i would find the work unacceptable and i would either send them a bill for my time spent fixing their work or ask for a partial refund.

course, you'd have to prove they did the work wrong. photos would have given you some evidence.

i would talk to the owner and explain all of this. if the owner is a prick about it, then lambast them on the internet and call the BBB to file a complaint. if the owner is as nice as he can be, then just chalk it up to a poor installer but not the fault of the shop.

i would've went back and that shop and made them redo the whole entire thing. better yet, i would do it myself. having a baby at the same time while working on your car is tough. been there, done that.

Just got off the phone and they want to see the panels. He also said he doesn't know of anyone that runs wires for speakers completely and that is where they always put the antenna. Although yesterday they told me they only just did a headunit on a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited once and mine was the first speakers, sub, amp, hu they have done. I call Bull.

If they didnt know what they were doing why did they take the job. This is whats wrong with some shops today. They will accept any job and then **** it up then they give you the run around and make it seem like your just being a picky **** I never have paid anyone to do a install because of how much i read about problems like this on here and other sites

Well I'm going to fix it regardless if they will do it or not. Because it sounds like they are saying that they did everything right. Well at least this time I will solder and heatshrink all of the connections instead of cheap & fast crimp connectors.

should have done this to begin with and saved the money and frustration.

Yeah I know, well they installed my alarm / remote start and everything was fine there. Didn't figure I would have this issue with my stereo. Live and learn.

What gauge is recommended for wiring speakers (Alpine Type R components and coaxial's) and wiring up a Sub Kicker L5 8"?

i use 14 awg minimum due to the distances and my desire to have low resistance. i also solder/heatshrink but you'll be hard pressed to find a shop that will solder. takes so much longer and most people aren't willing to pay.

you never said how much the install was. less than $200 and you got your money's worth.
