Lugnut key failure!

return to the fact of the matter...
The key should not have failed in the first place.

Now, back on subject...

What kinda open ended lugs does everyone use?!?
You probably over torqued them considering the fact you don't know the terminology of shop tools. Instead of a snapped of wheel stud, your socket broke. Next time you a torque stick or buy a cheap torque wrench.

No one gives a **** if I can call it by the correct name, it was painfully obvious what I was talking about. You, sir, are a short bus rider. If that was the case, the lug nut would have snapped the wheel stud. You can tell by where the break was made in the socket, and how thin the walls of the 'heat treated' socket are, that it was a manufacturers defect. If it was any other way, the key would have seized up prior to snapping, which it did not.

Pass judgement only when you have an idea of who, or what, you are judgeing.

Dumbass.

First off, I'm not judging. Second why would you impact your lugs on? Its the easy way out and it screws up your lugs. You can snap a socket by over applying too much torque because the socket obviously wasn't strong enough to be used with an impact wrench. Why do you think they make two different types of sockets? Chrome=hand tools Flat black= impact sockets

That looks just like the lug nut tool that was supplied with my locking lugs which came with my wheels when I bought them from DiscountTireDirect.com

My tool wasn't chromed, though...

I was a bit wary of the density of the walls on that tool and used their supplied order form to acquire myself a second one.

Always better to have and not need than need and not have says Prowler...

I don't know if it is because I have a spare but thus far I have never had the first bit of problem out of mine. Are they Gorilla-brand locking lugs?

If so then it's likely the exact same tool as mine excepting being chrome-plated whereas mine isn't.

Yeah, they are gorilla's.

I am not sure why mine was chromed, to be honest. I odered 3 sets at the same time, and only one came in with the chrome tool. I kept that one, and two friends were just as happy to not have to get their own lugnuts.

Interesting, I had forgotten about that anomoly.

I could go into a discussion about intelligence, but I would hate to argue with you over the internet who is the e-smartest.

Maybe it's time you left this forum, and headed out to the more rewarding life of being the intranetz latest know-it-all wizard.

So - going by your logic the tool for my lug nuts that was supplied with the lug nuts when they were sent with my wheels is appropriate for impact wrench use?

I beg to differ.

Look how thin those walls are! No way in Hades would I ever use this in an impact...

Now personally I absolutely hate using an impact on lug nuts at all because I have seen people who are a bit clueless operating them entirely too many times which inevitably results in something getting screwed up on a customer's vehicle. Snapped wheel studs, broken lug nuts, stripped threads, etc...

I demand, whenever I go have any kind of work done on my car, that should for any reason the wheels have to be removed that the lugs get removed then replaced by hand.

what I posted is a general rule of thumb by many tool salesmen. The Snap on guy told me what was just posted. I personally wouldn't use that with an impact because of the size of the walls. Common sense should apply.

Those lugs that you are using with that key is junk. That lugnut key is complete trash and tends to break easy as heck even when tightening/untightening by hand. You should just get a set of oem lugs and if you want locks maybe some gorilla or mcgards.
