owned a set of 3 perfect 10.1's at they hit were clean as a bell....i apid like 130+ each but they were well worth it. excellent SQ sub for the money....
I gotta' agree. The Perfects have also come WAAAY down in price since they first hit the market. I paid hundreds each for my 10.1's years ago and they still sound teriffic today. Just replaced them recently with 2.5+ kWatts into a pair of Alpine Type X woofs which do sound better, but at a huge jump in the investment.
When I did a SbS comparison of 10" drivers in same vehicle, same amp, and enclosures tuned to the woof, of MTX T7000, Boston Acoustics Pro 10, Orion XTR 10 DVC, and Perfect 10.1...
The MTX and Orion woofs hit about as hard (Orion probably the loudest of this group) and deep but neither had particularly excellent SQ -- the MTX being muddier, and the lowest quality sound of the bunch.
The BA Pro 10 was easily the best sounding woofer (accuracy and musicality you must hear to understand) and got plenty loud, but it just couldn't reach down very low.
The Perfect 10.1 was *almost* as nice sounding as the BA Pro... it was as loud as the rest if not a little louder than some, maintained excellent range linearity, and was easily the lowest-reaching.
Since all other woofers I've heard were not set up in that controlled environment for a perfectly fair comparison, it's difficult to judge, but I must say it wouldn't surprise me if the Perfects are the 3rd best SQ subs I've heard, just trailing, the Boston Pro and Alpine Type X.
Of course I haven't had the priviledge to listen to many of the other woofers being considered, so please take it with a grain of salt.
Cheers.
