low cost SQ sub.

A D2 will be a sub with two 2 Ohm voice coils (final load options on a single sub being 1 or 4 Ohms)
A D4 will be a sub with two 4 Ohm coils (final load options on a single sub being 2 or 8 Ohms)
that i know, but the T/S are different.

as i've said, different Fs and Qes, Qts

So I guess I'll go for the ZR or HED depends on price and availability.

My amp will probably be a JBL 4.75 (104*4 or 284*2 BUT in the new CEA 2006 ratings)

Would it be sufficient

Infinity subwoofers are pure SQ oriented and are relatively inexpensive

owned a set of 3 perfect 10.1's at they hit were clean as a bell....i apid like 130+ each but they were well worth it. excellent SQ sub for the money....

I haven't got a box for them yet, but my Atlases are looking damn sexy just sitting on my kitchen table. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I gotta' agree. The Perfects have also come WAAAY down in price since they first hit the market. I paid hundreds each for my 10.1's years ago and they still sound teriffic today. Just replaced them recently with 2.5+ kWatts into a pair of Alpine Type X woofs which do sound better, but at a huge jump in the investment.

When I did a SbS comparison of 10" drivers in same vehicle, same amp, and enclosures tuned to the woof, of MTX T7000, Boston Acoustics Pro 10, Orion XTR 10 DVC, and Perfect 10.1...

The MTX and Orion woofs hit about as hard (Orion probably the loudest of this group) and deep but neither had particularly excellent SQ -- the MTX being muddier, and the lowest quality sound of the bunch.

The BA Pro 10 was easily the best sounding woofer (accuracy and musicality you must hear to understand) and got plenty loud, but it just couldn't reach down very low.

The Perfect 10.1 was *almost* as nice sounding as the BA Pro... it was as loud as the rest if not a little louder than some, maintained excellent range linearity, and was easily the lowest-reaching.

Since all other woofers I've heard were not set up in that controlled environment for a perfectly fair comparison, it's difficult to judge, but I must say it wouldn't surprise me if the Perfects are the 3rd best SQ subs I've heard, just trailing, the Boston Pro and Alpine Type X.

Of course I haven't had the priviledge to listen to many of the other woofers being considered, so please take it with a grain of salt.

Cheers.

that's box dependent, not size^

I'll agree that a box (install) is the biggest factor in how a woofer performs. However, woofer size is also a big factor to consider dependent on the type of music you listen to. I mean would you run an 18" woofer for modern jazz?? Not me. Would you sport 2 or 4 - 8" woofers if you listened to rap, hip hop, and heavy metal?? Not me. Probably the most versatile size would be the 12". It can be used for just about ANY music. And depending on box type and size you can fit it to your tastes. Just my retarded opinon.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Why couldn't someone use an 18 for jazz, or 8's for rap? The comments that larger subs are only for boomy bass type rap music is pure bunk, and yet you seem to be trying to validate that arguement.
Subwoofer cone size will affect two things basically: frequency response curve (larger subs will play lower) and sheer output. Any other generalities trying to tie speaker diameter to music types is simply nonsense.
