Loudness of 3 13W7s

Yeah... it's all good. I got a little worked up, but I'm not trying to get into a pissing match with anybody, so I'm gonna bow out of this one. OP: sorry to clutter up your thread with BS. Keep reading, and good luck.

I really doubt a 12" can have "alot more SPL" than a 13.5" JL w7 given both around "1500 watts" and ported to specs.
Oh yes it can.

the difference in cone area is neglegable and there are many other variables that have to do with SPL than cone area.

in fact, some 10" subs can get louder than 18" subs, given the same power and both in optimum enclosures.

Cone material, suspension, automotive environment, voice coil material, motor force, there are so many variables that have to do with SPL.

I thought Nate Munsun settled the cone area and/or single sub debate a couple years ago when he hit a 169.7 with a single DD9510 (and slightly lower with a few other subs in the same install, including the W7 iirc).

Was not with the current TL, but still an astounding score with a single 10" subwoofer.

And now we have Alan Dante doing a 180 with a single 9918Z on the TL.

and many street competitors doing 158s with 2 10s.

i'm thinking 3 BL's on a sundown 3000 should get stupid loud and still sound decent. pic a size 10s 12s 15s whatever and if your looking for a loud setup where sq is really important, either IXLs. Q's, Icons or alphas.

and if stupid loud is really the goal, 2 hdcs on a sundown 3000 or 2 aq2200's strapped... and if you ran the 2200's strapped you could also look into mach 5 SPL series and btls as well as nightshades.

See 1,500 watts rms...

Of course alot of SPL designed subs will sound alot louder, but you will need more than 1,500rms.

Comming from bigbassman on the great 12" challenge

SPL burps...

12" w7 143.9 on 2,100 rms

12" FI btl 146.2 on 6,460rms

So you got triple the power and only gained 3 decibels? ohh wait, we are still comparing a 12 vs a 12, now put a 13.5 into the equation and feed them both the same 1,500rms.

are the JL w7 good subs yeah, are they the sub most companies compared there products to, yeah... are they the best, definitelly not but they hang with the top subs out there.

i agree with this argument completely i want that to be known first, however, one thing i want to point out is the simple fact that the btl actually TOOK 6460 watts, i don't think 2 w7's could withstand that, let alone 1
