Hi, I was just looking around before I registered and saw that these forums are pretty helpful. Anyway, I'm looking to buy two 10" Kicker SoloX but I don't know which to buy.

First, I wanted to know which ones are better, the 2 Ohm version of the sub or the 4 Ohm.

Second, what kind of amp would I need to power these subs. I bought two MA Audio subs a while back with a Hifonics XX Goliath and they blew out in about 2 weeks >_
Also, I wanted to know what I should tell the guy that would install them for me to do. Most car audio shops around here don't car how they install it and think most people are stupid and are just anxious to hear their car bumping. So they don't care how they install it. I'm saying this 'cause when those MA subs were hooked up on my car I had bought a second car battery for the system but the guy hooked it up to the actually car battery under the hood. So my car's lights flicker when it hits the bass.

Thanks guys, and I hope to be enlightened with your car audio wisdom //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

First of all the 2ohm and the 4ohm version arent really different, the only difference is your wiring options with going with one or another.

What Model MA Subs did you buy? The Goliath is a strong amp, should do around 4500w rms full tilt, IIRC(if I remember correctly)

Also just so you know, if you want your car to continue cranking, you need (at the LEAST) a very high output alternator and a couple of batteries, you bought nice equipment now the hard part is getting your electrical system up to par to handle it.

What kind of car do you have?

This will tell us a few things - how much room you have and how to get things rollin for ya

And my opinion on the box build - either get someone near you that is reputable on the forums to build it for you, or find you a reputable shop and spend the money. It's worth it.

What mistergrubbs also said. build up your electrical system run a 2nd battery , Run the BIG 3 look it up here what it is in the electrical section and if so run a bigger alt if not save up the money to . will make a big diffrence.

Well first off the SoloX is a series in its own, its their best line. As far as which is better, 2ohm or 4ohm, there is no better, this just means the wiring options. Example, you can wire a dvc4ohm to 1ohm or 4ohm load, and you can wire a dvc2ohm to .5ohm, 2ohm.

The amp will be your choice, depending on your budget and preferences and what ohm load you want and such, but the 10" solox's are 2500rms so your gonna wanna give it about or more than that if you want it to wang. Goliath is a good amp tho.

If you want to ensure no one else ****s up your install, you should do it yourself.

x2...its really easy to install systems yourself. just people dont like taking apart there car and using a bit of common sense.

I saved a bunch of money by switching to doing it myself install //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/suave.gif.858fc102f7646e678ee8af7e1fbc41d1.gif

I might install it in a Chevy 1500 or a '89 box caprice. So a 4 Ohm would need more wiring than a 2 Ohm?

Also, I was planning on getting each sub its own amp. The Goliath is in an '04 Accord ATM.

I'll also check on that BIG 3 thread in a minute.

Thanks .

no, it wouldn't take more wiring. the difference in ohms just gives you different wiring options for each sub
