Lots of questions for first time audio installation..

Ok so first off, I'm gonna be installing a fi Q 12" sub. I'm doing it in a sealed enclosure and I believe fi recommends .8-1.5 cu. ft. If I'm aiming for sound quality, what would be the best way to construct this box? Does it really matter with just a simple sealed enclosure? If anyone could layout some kind of design for me I'd appreciate it a lot. My second question regarding to this, is where can I find material to carpet the box with so to match my trunk?

The other question I had was in regard to installing tweeters. Is there a video/picture guide anywhere showing step to step how to make and install a custom enclosure on the A-pillar for tweeters? If anyone could shoot me a link for a topic or something like that, I would also appreciate that very much.

Thanks guys.

for the box a simple square box is always fine if your ok with it taking up some space, if your would want someone to give you a design layout you could ask RAM_Designs might make you one. I hear he's pretty good.

and the carpet you can order online if you want, or try your luck at a hobby lobby, somthing like that. Every once and awhile ill take a look in walmarts fabric area.. wont usually find one that matchs the truck but really close.

The tweeters, well that you need to find a way to get the wires there, not that hard but most time (depending on how big the tweeter is) you have to some fiberglass work.

Does the angle (or direction) the sub is facing have any effect on sound quality?

Also, where might I find the carpet online... do you know any specific sites haha?

And I'm fine with doing fiberglass work if someone has posted a guide on how to do it... I'm not having much luck finding a "tweeter installation guide" unfortunately.

if you have just a trunk, face it towards the back. Angle doesn't matter much unless you have a hatch, van, suv ect.

and i don't have a place i buy online really, i have a large hobbie lobby here in town with tons of fabric that i go to.

Well fiberglass is kinda hard work to make look good.. but you can watch videos on youtube that will show you how to do fiberglass work..

And tweeters are easy to install, if you buy a component set, it will give you a crossover that will eq it for you, all you have to do is mount it and wire it in...

well i didn't mean literally wiring it, i meant installing it onto the A-pillar. I need a guide showing how to do that or something lol.

try searching custom a-pillars. that should work rather than just tweeter install. id suggest using that Q ported instead of sealed, by going sealed your arent going to gain that much SQ, but instead will be losing a lot of output

hmm I always hear people recommend sealed for SQ

If I was gonna do ported I'd need someone to sketch out a box design.. I'm new to this and all but I've just been under the understanding that I should do sealed for SQ. Why would the Q specifically be a bad sub to seal? Plus I already ordered it high QTS because I planned on sealing it.... Couldn't I just theoretically make a bigger box to gain back some output? They recommend .8-1.5 cu ft so i was thinking maybe going all the way to 1.5. im sure itd be easy to draw a box for that.

well if you build a good ported box tuned right.. the sq will still be really good if not better.

And he's not saying sealed would be bad, just would loose alot of output by doing sealed.. and he's correct.

Like i said talk with RAM_Designs, he will probably hook you up with a good box design that would sound great and loud at the same time.

Eh, I'm kind of thinking of sticking with a big sealed box for now. Especially since it will be easier to make. I've heard the fi sealed in videos and it still sounded plenty powerful for my taste so we'll see how things work out with sealed and if I decide I want a ported box later I can always change it I guess lol.

A bigger sealed box would be best though because it would increase the output would it not?

a bigger sealed box doesn't mean it will be louder..

send RAM_Designs a pm, and he'll let you know how big to make it lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
