get a toy, and spend the rest of the money on a daily driver.
just get something lightweight, that doesn't require tons of hp/$$$ to get fast, and then get yourself a solid daily driver that's comfy and quiet.
There's no way to make a car a) fast b) handle well c) quiet all at the same time.
but i guess that depends on your definition of fast.
Back when i was living with my dad, and could afford toys, i got myself an abandoned autox project car for $5k, which was an 87 gti, that was stripped out, had a european 2.9l VR6, big cams, racing intake manifold, quaiffe LSD, chip, underdrive pulleys, coilovers, nice racing wheels, toyo proxies, 5-point harnesses, 14-point cage, corrado dash swap, tons of body work, custom audi silver paint job, 16v final drive, etc. etc. etc. all because the guy got frustrated when he bent a few valves.
Would i want to drive something like that everyday? Hells no. The thing idled like complete A$$, and rode like a **** truck.
But did it run low 13's, spin the tires through 3rd, get 29+mpg, whip around corners like a go-kart? Hell yes.
**** thing even had a sony xplod head unit in it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
And i still had the money left over to buy the audi to drive everyday.
Toy+Daily = bliss.
