Looking to switch my daily sub setup. SS RL-p to Fi SSD

Alright, its been about 6 months since I put the RL-p's in my truck, and now its time to retire them to the HT. Since I have faced the facts and realized that I can't fit 2 12's ported in my single cab (belive me I tried and got 3 cubes @ 35 Hz, but I would be sitting in the steering wheel even more so than I do now with my 3 cube sealed box). So im moving down to 10s.

Right now im looking at the Fi SSD 10s. 2 of them. Box will be around 2.5 cubes net tuned to 34Hz, and power will be provided by an orion 1200d @ 15v.

Basically what im trying to get at is...I want an increase in output from my 2 RL-ps sealed. I know no one has done a comparison between the two, but correct me if im wrong, on paper, the SSD seems like it would out perform the RL-ps.

The only person that can answer this is probably Scott or another Fi insider. But I hate to ask, but as the only baseline I have, I have to. What RE sub does the SSD compare to, the SX or more towards the SE.

Thanks.

I haven't talked to him about the Fi SSD's,but I have about the Fi Q's and the Fi BTL's.

He said that the Fi Q's are comparable to the XXX's and it will keep up with te SX in terms of SPL and pass it up as the SX runs out of Xmax in lower tuned applications if that helps you at all.

my rl-ps share a 2500d (2500wrms) sealed, no shortage of output, they get stupid low and sound amazing. try a bigger amp before you swap stuff out

I love the RL-ps you got me all wrong. I just love to try new things. The RL-ps will be put in a Decware box in the HT. I want to keep the amp I have and go with new subs. It will be cheaper. SSD 10s will run me around 380 and a 2500d or similar would run me 400-650

how the hell is that suppose to help him?

I like the SSD I have. I would like it even more if I didn't stab the surround.

Can't compare to RE but it is not as loud as my pioneer but the SQ is very much more. The pioneer can shake a car, the SSD can make you smile.

Hope this helps.

you tellin me the ssd on a merlin md3 aint loud as a pioneer on a md2?

I thought Q series was the Sq line from Fi? If it's comparable to XXX then it more of a SPL sub rather than a SQ or SQL. Im confused! What series from Fi is the SQ line for example SE from RE?

Same amp (md3), same enclosure(2.5@33), same settings...the pioneer is louder, more vibrating of car. imo (although I have no mic)

the ssd sounds much better, but the pioneer is a SPL sub. Was used in the loudest setup in the world in its day.

The MD3 was supposed to be for a friend, but I paid him some funds and swaped him the MD2.

The MD3 is alot heavier and a few inches longer. Although only 500w more RMS, I don't have to use the gain very much. On the MD2, gain was set at about 3/4s on the MD3, only 1/4.

My intiial impression of the SSD 12 brand new out of the box droped in a 2.2 cube ported box w/ 600wrms going to it ( verified via dmm )

sub got extremely loud with the power in a ext cab truck... played strong in the lower frequencies seemd to fall off a small amount about 40-50 hz , but that could be b/c of the box design...

all in all a very VERY nice sub for daily driving.. and btw this is only after 5 mins of listening. This is in a friend daily and he listens to mostly rock with fast tight bass... lets just say he is overly impressed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
